Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to the specialty occupation. A hospitality management or tourism degree strengthens your case. A general business degree may require additional documentation showing how it applies to guest services.
Search LCA filings for hospitality employers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for guest service or hospitality roles. This shows which companies have an active H-1B sponsorship history before you apply.
Target E-Verify enrolled hotel employers
H-1B employers must be enrolled in E-Verify. Large hotel chains and resort operators are more likely to meet this requirement and have in-house HR processes for managing visa sponsorship filings than independent properties.
Check your O*NET classification before negotiating
Guest Service Attendant maps to specific SOC codes on O*NET. Confirm your job duties align with the occupation's definition, since the DOL prevailing wage your employer must pay is tied directly to your SOC code and work location.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers
Filter your job search on Migrate Mate to surface employers with documented H-1B LCA filing history in hospitality. This removes properties that list openings without any sponsorship infrastructure, saving you time at the offer stage.
Request the I-129 filing timeline from your employer
Ask any prospective employer when they plan to file your I-129 petition. USCIS can begin employment up to 90 days before your start date, so confirming the filing schedule protects your work authorization from gaps.
H-1B Visa Guest Service Attendant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Guest Service Attendant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires the role to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. A Guest Service Attendant job that demands a degree in hospitality management, hotel administration, or tourism can qualify. Roles where any bachelor's degree is accepted regardless of field face a higher risk of an RFE or denial.
Which types of employers typically sponsor H-1B visas for guest service roles?
Large hotel chains, resort groups, and convention center operators are the most likely sponsors because they have dedicated HR and legal teams experienced with H-1B filings. Independent boutique hotels rarely have the infrastructure. You can confirm which employers have active filing history by reviewing OFLC Labor Condition Application disclosures or searching on Migrate Mate.
What prevailing wage level applies to a Guest Service Attendant on H-1B?
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location. Guest service roles typically fall at wage levels one or two, which reflects entry to experienced positions in the local market. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current prevailing wage for your job's SOC code and the city where you'll work.
Can I switch to a different hotel employer while on H-1B?
Yes. Under AC21 portability rules, you can transfer your H-1B to a new employer in the same or a similar specialty occupation once your petition has been pending for at least 180 days. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition and you can begin work as soon as it's received by USCIS, without waiting for approval.
How do I find Guest Service Attendant jobs where the employer will actually sponsor H-1B?
Most job postings don't state whether H-1B sponsorship is available, so checking LCA filing history is more reliable than reading job descriptions. Migrate Mate surfaces Guest Service Attendant openings filtered by verified employer sponsorship history, so you're only reviewing roles at companies that have filed H-1B petitions for comparable positions.
