Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Ios Software Engineer
Align your degree to the role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your specific degree field directly relates to iOS engineering. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly. An unrelated degree requires a detailed equivalency argument supported by transcripts and employer documentation.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to search iOS Software Engineer roles filtered by employers with active H-1B Labor Condition Application filings. This cuts through postings where sponsorship is listed as possible but the employer has no documented filing track record.
Check the prevailing wage before negotiating
Look up the wage level for your target metro area using the OFLC Wage Search before any salary discussion. Your offer must meet the certified LCA wage, so knowing the Level I through Level IV range prevents late-stage offer complications.
Target cap-exempt institutions for faster timelines
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government research entities are cap-exempt H-1B employers. iOS engineering roles at these institutions can be filed and approved year-round without waiting for the annual April lottery window.
Confirm your employer files concurrently with premium processing
Standard H-1B adjudication can take three to six months. Ask during the offer stage whether the employer uses premium processing, which shortens USCIS review to 15 business days and gives you a predictable start-date timeline.
Document your Swift and Xcode expertise for the LCA
Employers need to substantiate the specialty occupation claim. Gather evidence of platform-specific skills, such as App Store submissions, framework contributions, or iOS-specific certifications, that the employer can reference when the LCA is prepared and USCIS reviews the petition.
H-1B Visa Ios Software Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an iOS Software Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. iOS Software Engineer roles consistently qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. The O*NET profile for software developers classifies the role in Job Zone 4, which USCIS treats as strong evidence of specialty occupation status. Your employer documents this qualification in the H-1B petition.
How do I find iOS Software Engineer jobs where employers will actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Search on Migrate Mate, which filters iOS Software Engineer roles by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history through DOL. A job posting that says 'sponsorship available' without a filing record is a weaker signal than one from an employer who has consistently filed LCAs for software engineering roles in your target metro.
What happens to my H-1B status if I switch iOS engineering jobs mid-visa period?
You can transfer to a new H-1B employer under portability rules once your current H-1B has been approved and you've maintained valid status. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition, and you can start working as soon as USCIS receives it, without waiting for approval. The new employer must still file a certified LCA for the role and location before submitting.
Does working remotely affect my H-1B sponsorship as an iOS engineer?
Yes, materially. Your H-1B is tied to the worksite locations listed on the certified LCA. If you work remotely from a city not covered by that LCA, your employer must file an amended LCA and potentially an amended H-1B petition with USCIS. iOS engineers who move between metro areas or shift to full-remote arrangements should confirm their employer updates the LCA before the new worksite becomes active.
Can a startup sponsor my H-1B for an iOS engineering role?
Yes, but the employer must demonstrate financial ability to pay the certified prevailing wage through the full H-1B validity period. USCIS looks at tax returns, audited financials, or net income relative to the offered salary. Early-stage startups without sufficient documentation face higher RFE rates, so it's worth asking the employer directly what evidence they plan to include before accepting an offer contingent on sponsorship.
