H-1B Visa IT Administrator Jobs
IT Administrator roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Employers must file an LCA with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS, certifying your role meets prevailing wage requirements for your work location.

Verify your degree aligns with the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to IT administration duties. A degree in business with no technical coursework can trigger an RFE. Pull the O*NET profile for IT Administrators to cross-check the listed knowledge areas against your transcript.
Check LCA filings before applying
Search Migrate Mate to see which employers have active H-1B LCA filings for IT Administrator roles in your target city. This tells you which companies have already cleared the DOL prevailing-wage step, not just which ones claim to sponsor.
Target companies already enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment is a required prerequisite for H-1B sponsors. Confirm your prospective employer is enrolled before you invest time in interviews. You can verify enrollment status directly through E-Verify without contacting the employer.
Benchmark your wage against OFLC data
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage for your exact SOC code and work location before you negotiate an offer. If the offered salary falls below the Level I or II prevailing wage, the employer's LCA will not be certified.
Clarify on-site versus remote work before filing
IT Administrators frequently support multiple office locations. Each physical worksite requires a separate LCA posting. Confirm with your employer which locations will be listed on the petition to avoid compliance gaps after your H-1B is approved.
Start cap-subject registration with enough runway
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date, meaning a gap of six or more months between offer and authorization. If you're on OPT, confirm your EAD expiration date and whether cap-gap protection will cover the interim period.
H-1B Visa IT Administrator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Administrator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or network engineering. Generic IT support roles where a degree in any field is acceptable can fail the specialty occupation test. The job description and internal employer documentation must establish the degree requirement as a business necessity, not just a preference.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for IT Administrator positions?
Mid-size and large enterprises across healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and technology consistently file H-1B LCAs for IT Administrator roles. Staffing and consulting firms also sponsor, though their petitions face heightened USCIS scrutiny over worksites and supervision. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history for this role, so you can filter by location and industry before applying.
Can my employer transfer my H-1B if I move to a new IT Administrator role at a different company?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer once they file a valid H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for USCIS approval, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status. The new employer must file a new LCA and I-129 petition. Gaps in employment between the two positions can complicate portability eligibility, so timing matters.
What happens if my employer lists multiple work locations on my H-1B LCA?
Your employer must post the LCA notice at every physical worksite where you'll perform IT Administrator duties for at least ten consecutive business days. If you're later assigned to a new location not covered by the original LCA, your employer must file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS. Remote work from your home address may also require a separate LCA entry depending on the state and the DOL compliance posture your employer takes.
Is an IT Administrator role likely to be selected in the H-1B lottery?
Selection is random across all cap-subject registrations, so the odds depend on total registration volume for a given fiscal year, not on job title. IT Administrator roles filed by non-exempt employers enter the same pool as all other cap-subject petitions. If your employer qualifies as a cap-exempt institution, such as a university or affiliated nonprofit research organization, the lottery does not apply and USCIS processes the petition year-round.
