Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Licensing Specialist
Verify your degree field aligns precisely
H-1B specialty occupation requires your degree to directly relate to licensing work. A general business degree may draw an RFE if the role specifies contract law or regulatory affairs. Check the O*NET profile for Licensing Specialists to document the degree-to-role connection.
Target industries with active LCA filing histories
Pharma, software, and financial services firms file LCAs for Licensing Specialist roles most consistently. Search the OFLC Wage Search by SOC code 13-1011 to identify which employers have recently certified positions before you apply.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Migrate Mate by job title and H-1B sponsorship status to surface employers with confirmed filing histories for Licensing Specialist roles. This narrows your search to companies already familiar with the petition process for this occupation.
Request prevailing wage documentation early
Your employer must file an LCA certifying your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for Level I through Level IV before USCIS receives the I-129. Ask your HR contact which wage level they intend to use so you can flag any mismatches before filing begins.
Prepare licensing credentials before the offer stage
Some Licensing Specialist roles require state or industry certifications alongside your degree. Gather current certificates, transcripts, and any foreign credential evaluations ahead of the offer so your employer's attorney can assemble the I-129 petition without delays.
Negotiate cap-exempt employers if lottery risk is high
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government entities are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B petition bypasses the annual lottery entirely. Licensing roles at academic medical centers or research foundations often qualify and are overlooked by most applicants.

Find Licensing Specialist JobsLicensing Specialist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Licensing Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the work, such as business, law, intellectual property, or a regulated industry discipline. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field are more likely to face an RFE from USCIS. Your employer should document the degree requirement clearly in the job description and LCA filing.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Licensing Specialist positions?
Pharmaceutical companies, enterprise software firms, financial services institutions, and large healthcare organizations are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Licensing Specialist roles. You can find employers with verified H-1B filing histories for this title on Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by sponsorship status so you're not guessing which companies will support your petition.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect a Licensing Specialist's H-1B offer?
Before USCIS reviews your I-129 petition, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered salary meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your job title, level, and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level I through Level IV wage rates for SOC code 13-1011 in your metro area so you can verify the offer is compliant before signing.
Can a Licensing Specialist change employers while on H-1B status?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition on your behalf, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you haven't fallen out of status. The new employer's LCA and petition must cover a qualifying specialty occupation role, and the same degree-to-job-title alignment standard applies.
What documents should a Licensing Specialist prepare for the H-1B petition process?
You'll typically need official transcripts, your degree certificate, a foreign credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., any professional licenses or certifications relevant to the role, and a detailed letter from your employer explaining why the position requires your specific degree field. Assembling these before an offer is made shortens the filing timeline and reduces the risk of delays from last-minute document requests.
