INTRODUCTION
Family Health Care is seeking an on-call Medical Office Assistant / HIS Clerk at our clinic in Big Rapids.
DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Office Assistant is a front desk employee responsible for checking in patients, scheduling appointments, answering phones, etc. The Health Information Services (HIS) Clerk is an entry-level position in the medical records department. This position handles confidential patient records, ensuring they are maintained in an organized manner and under strict security protocols.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow HIPAA to ensure confidentiality and access to patient health information.
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to medical records requests from patients.
- Accurately performs all required procedures for processing release of information requests.
- Performs other duties deemed necessary and assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to pay attention to detail.
- Experience in medical records management is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of patient records systems is preferred.
- Working knowledge of health care terminology is preferred.
- Must have typing and computer skills.
- Good interpersonal communication skills to work with patients, providers, and coworkers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
- Previous medical records experience preferred but not required.
- Basic office skills, including organization and communication.
