Align your degree to the role
H-1B approval for National Sales Manager hinges on a direct connection between your degree field and the role. A marketing or business degree strengthens the specialty occupation case; a degree in an unrelated field invites an RFE from USCIS.
Cross-reference prevailing wages before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level II or III prevailing wage for Sales Managers in your target metro. Your offered salary must meet or exceed this threshold, and the LCA must certify it before your I-129 is filed.
Filter employers by LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Search National Sales Manager roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces verified DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which employers have actively sponsored this job title, not just claimed they're open to sponsorship.
Target large enterprise and B2B technology companies
Companies in enterprise software, medical devices, and industrial distribution routinely file H-1B petitions for sales leadership roles. These industries have established immigration workflows and are less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-process when quotas tighten.
Clarify the filing timeline before signing an offer
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed after April 1 for an October 1 start. If your offer letter has a start date before October 1 and you're cap-subject, confirm whether the employer will bridge your status or defer your start date.
Document quota-carrying sales achievements in quantifiable terms
USCIS adjudicators evaluating specialty occupation for sales roles scrutinize whether the position genuinely requires a degree. Offer letters and job descriptions that specify revenue targets, territory size, and team leadership reinforce the professional complexity of the role.
H-1B Visa National Sales Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a National Sales Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, if the employer requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business administration, marketing, or a related discipline. Generic sales roles without a degree requirement don't qualify, so the job description must establish that a specific academic background is the standard for entry into the position. USCIS evaluates this on a case-by-case basis using the job duties and degree requirement stated in the LCA and I-129 petition.
How do I find National Sales Manager jobs at companies that sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate filters National Sales Manager listings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you're only seeing employers who have sponsored this job title through official DOL filings, not employers who simply say they're open to sponsorship. This saves significant time during your search and gives you a factual basis for asking about the process during early conversations with recruiters.
Can my employer sponsor my H-1B while I'm already working for them on OPT?
Yes, and this is one of the most common paths for National Sales Managers in the U.S. on F-1 OPT. Your employer files your H-1B registration in the April lottery. If selected, they file the full I-129 petition. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you have a pending or approved petition, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization until your H-1B start date.
What does an employer need to file before submitting my H-1B petition?
Before USCIS receives your I-129 petition, your employer must file and receive certification of a Labor Condition Application from DOL. The LCA certifies that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your occupation and geographic area, that hiring you won't adversely affect similarly employed workers, and that the worksite is free from labor disputes. Certification typically takes seven business days through DOL's FLAG system.
Does the O*NET classification for Sales Managers affect my H-1B eligibility?
It can. USCIS and DOL reference O*NET's Standard Occupational Classification codes when evaluating whether a role qualifies as a specialty occupation and when setting prevailing wage levels. The O*NET profile for Sales Managers describes a Job Zone 4 occupation, which supports the argument that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree. Your employer's attorney should align the job description with O*NET task descriptions to strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
