H-1B Visa Nutritionist Jobs
Nutritionist roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field. Hospital systems, university health centers, and corporate wellness programs are among the most active sponsors. The annual H-1B cap means timing your job search around the April filing window matters.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Nutritionist
Verify your credential meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to the nutritionist role. A general biology degree with no nutrition coursework can trigger an RFE. Pull your O*NET profile for SOC code 29-1031 to confirm the listed degree requirements before applying.
Target healthcare systems over private practice
Solo dietitian practices and small wellness clinics rarely have the HR infrastructure to file H-1B petitions. Hospital networks, university medical centers, and large managed care organizations have established immigration counsel and file petitions regularly.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by nutrition and dietetics roles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B filing history. This cuts your list to organizations that have already navigated the process, so you're not educating an employer on sponsorship from scratch.
Get your prevailing wage level before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC 29-1031 in your target metro before entering salary talks so you know the certified floor.
Time your offer acceptance around the filing window
H-1B cap petitions can only be filed in April for an October 1 start. If you receive an offer in July, your employer can file the following April, leaving a gap of nearly a year. Negotiate a start date or interim arrangement that accounts for this cycle.
Confirm your employer will cover petition fees
USCIS filing fees for the I-129 petition are legally required to be paid by the employer for cap-subject cases, not deducted from your wages. Clarify this in writing during the offer stage, before any paperwork is signed.

Find Nutritionist JobsNutritionist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a nutritionist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
Yes, nutritionist and dietitian positions generally qualify as specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food science, or a closely related field. USCIS evaluates the specific job duties, not just the title. Roles focused on clinical nutrition or medical nutrition therapy have the strongest case, while generalist wellness coaching positions may face more scrutiny if degree requirements aren't clearly stated in the job description.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for nutritionist roles?
Hospital systems, university health centers, long-term care networks, and large corporate wellness programs are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for nutritionists. These organizations have existing immigration infrastructure and file petitions routinely. You can identify employers with verified H-1B filing history for nutrition and dietetics roles by searching Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by sponsorship activity.
What documents do I need to support an H-1B petition as a nutritionist?
Your employer's attorney will need your academic transcripts, degree certificates, and any professional licenses such as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization is typically required. USCIS may also request evidence that your specific degree field directly corresponds to the job duties listed in the petition.
How does the H-1B cap affect my nutritionist job search timeline?
Most nutritionist positions at private employers fall under the H-1B annual cap of 85,000 visas. Petitions are filed in April and, if selected in the lottery, authorize work starting October 1. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, coordinate your OPT end date with this timeline carefully. Employers at nonprofit hospitals or universities that qualify as cap-exempt institutions can file at any time, bypassing the lottery entirely.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new nutritionist employer after approval?
Yes, H-1B portability under AC21 allows you to transfer your petition to a new employer while the transfer is pending, as long as you've been in valid H-1B status for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a related occupational classification. Your new employer files a new I-129 petition, and you can begin working for them once USCIS acknowledges receipt, without waiting for full approval.
