H-1B Visa Pediatric Physical Therapist Jobs
Pediatric physical therapists qualify for H-1B sponsorship as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in physical therapy, though most U.S. positions now require a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Hospitals, pediatric clinics, early intervention programs, and school districts all file H-1B petitions for this role, making employer identification straightforward if you know where to look.

Verify your DPT degree meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to the role. A DPT from a CAPTE-accredited program outside the U.S. must include a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to a U.S. DPT before your employer files the I-129.
Target early intervention programs specifically
State-funded early intervention programs regularly sponsor H-1B petitions for pediatric PTs and often have longer-term contracts than private clinics. Check whether the program qualifies as a nonprofit or government entity, which affects cap-exemption eligibility.
Check state licensure timelines before your start date
Your employer can't file the LCA until you hold or are eligible for a state PT license. Licensing boards in states like California and New York have processing times that can stretch beyond 90 days, which directly delays the H-1B filing window.
Use OFLC Wage Search to anchor your salary negotiation
Look up the prevailing wage for your SOC code and the employer's metro area before accepting an offer. Your employer's LCA must certify at least the DOL prevailing wage, so knowing that number protects you from below-market offers that could still be technically compliant.
Search Migrate Mate to find verified H-1B filing employers
Migrate Mate shows which pediatric PT employers have active LCA filing history by location and role, so you can prioritize outreach to employers with a documented record of H-1B sponsorship rather than asking cold during interviews.
Clarify school district cap-exempt status before April
School districts affiliated with universities or research institutions may qualify as cap-exempt employers, letting your employer file outside the annual H-1B lottery window. Confirm this with the HR department before the April registration deadline, not after.

Find Pediatric Physical Therapist JobsPediatric Physical Therapist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a pediatric physical therapist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS recognizes physical therapy as a specialty occupation because the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in physical therapy or a directly related field, and most U.S. employers now require a Doctor of Physical Therapy. The O*NET profile for physical therapists confirms the degree requirement, which supports the specialty occupation determination in the I-129 petition.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for pediatric physical therapists?
Children's hospitals, pediatric outpatient clinics, school districts, early intervention programs, and inpatient rehabilitation centers all file H-1B petitions for this role. Nonprofit hospitals and university-affiliated health systems are particularly active sponsors and may qualify as cap-exempt, which means they can file outside the annual lottery. You can filter by employer type and filing history on Migrate Mate.
How does state PT licensure affect the H-1B filing timeline?
Your employer can't certify the Labor Condition Application with DOL until you have a valid state PT license or at minimum a temporary license. States with lengthy licensure queues can delay the LCA certification and push the entire I-129 filing past key deadlines. Starting the licensure application as early as possible after accepting an offer is critical for hitting the October 1 start date.
Can a pediatric PT employer sponsor an H-1B outside the annual lottery?
Some can. Employers classified as institutions of higher education, nonprofit research organizations, or government research entities are cap-exempt and can file H-1B petitions year-round without entering the lottery. School districts affiliated with a university and children's hospitals with formal research or teaching affiliations sometimes qualify. You'll need the employer to confirm their cap-exempt status before relying on this path.
What happens to H-1B status if a pediatric PT changes employers between jobs?
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as the new I-129 petition is filed, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've been in valid status. The new employer must file a transfer petition before you stop working for the current one. Gaps in employment can complicate status, so timing the transition carefully with both HR teams matters.
