H-1B Visa Planner Jobs
Planner roles in urban planning, logistics, and supply chain regularly qualify as H-1B specialty occupations when the position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Verify your degree field matches the role
Planner titles cover urban, logistics, supply chain, and financial planning. USCIS evaluates whether your specific degree field directly relates to the job duties. A civil engineering degree supports a transportation planner role; a business degree may not.
Look up prevailing wages before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the Level I through Level IV wage for your planner SOC code in your target metro. Employers must certify they'll meet prevailing wage on the LCA, so knowing the threshold helps you evaluate offers realistically.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers who have filed LCAs for planner roles in your target city. Employers with recent filing history have already navigated DOL certification for this occupation, which reduces friction in your sponsorship conversation.
Prioritize government contractors and infrastructure firms
Federal contractors working on transportation, defense, or infrastructure projects regularly sponsor H-1B planners because the roles require specialized degrees and security-related continuity. These employers often file outside peak seasons, which can mean faster LCA processing.
Request cap-exempt filing if a university or nonprofit is hiring
If a research university, nonprofit urban planning organization, or government entity extends you an offer, that employer may qualify as cap-exempt. Cap-exempt H-1B petitions aren't subject to the annual 85,000-slot limit and can be filed at any time of year.
Start the H-1B filing timeline conversation early
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing in summer or fall, clarify with the employer whether they'll sponsor in the next registration cycle. A 12-month planning horizon prevents gaps in your work authorization.

Find Planner JobsPlanner H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Planner role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
It depends on the specific planner title and whether the employer requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Urban planners, financial planners, and logistics planners typically qualify when the job posting specifies a degree in urban planning, finance, supply chain, or a closely related discipline. Roles where any general business degree suffices are harder to qualify. Reviewing the O*NET profile for your specific SOC code helps confirm the educational requirements USCIS expects.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most consistently for Planner positions?
Government contractors, transportation agencies, engineering and environmental consulting firms, and large logistics and supply chain operations sponsor H-1B planners with regularity. Municipal and county government entities can also sponsor but may file as cap-exempt if they qualify. Financial planning roles at banks and wealth management firms are another consistent source of LCA filings for planner-titled positions. Browse Migrate Mate to filter active sponsoring employers by planner role and location.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Planner job offers?
Your employer must pay you at least the prevailing wage for your planner occupation and work location, as determined by DOL wage data. Prevailing wages are tiered from Level I (entry-level) to Level IV (fully competent). If an offer comes in below the prevailing wage for your level, the employer cannot certify the LCA, which blocks the H-1B petition. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the applicable wage before accepting an offer.
Can I switch Planner jobs on an H-1B without losing my status?
Yes, but the new employer must file an H-1B transfer petition before your start date with them. Under portability rules established by AC21, you can begin working for the new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed, provided your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days and the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Confirm the new role's SOC code aligns with your original petition to avoid complications.
What documents should I prepare before asking an employer to sponsor my H-1B for a Planner role?
Prepare your official degree transcripts and diploma, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., any professional licenses relevant to the planner specialty, and a detailed description of your job duties aligned to the H-1B specialty occupation standard. USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence if the degree-to-job match is not immediately clear, so having documentation ready that connects your coursework to your planner responsibilities speeds up the process.
