Our services organization maximizes the value of our customers' KLA assets – with highly trained service and product support engineers providing installation services and 24/7 technical support and parts delivery through our extensive supply chain network.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Join KLA as a Technical Product Support Engineer providing advanced troubleshooting support for sophisticated semiconductor capital equipment. This is a hands-on, equipment-focused engineering role centered on diagnosing and resolving complex optical, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, computer-control, and integrated software issues—not corporate IT, desktop support, or help-desk support. You will serve as the second point of escalation when field product support teams have been unable to isolate or resolve an equipment problem. Working with field engineers, product specialists, and engineering teams, you will help determine root cause, develop an effective recovery plan, and restore equipment performance for our customers. This description retains the internally reviewed responsibilities for unresolved KLA equipment issues, short-notice worldwide field support, technical reporting, training, and 40–70% domestic and international travel.
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as the second-level technical escalation resource for ongoing issues involving KLA semiconductor equipment when field product support teams are unable to resolve the problem.
- Assist field engineers with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging sophisticated optical, electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment, including computer-control systems and integrated software solutions.
- Apply in-depth system knowledge and a strong understanding of equipment operating principles to isolate complex or ambiguous failures.
- Perform hands-on, system-level problem solving to identify root cause, determine corrective action, and minimize equipment downtime.
- Exercise sound technical judgment within broadly defined practices and policies when selecting troubleshooting methods, diagnostic techniques, and recovery actions.
- Collaborate with product specialists, engineering teams, field organizations, and other technical partners to develop an optimized plan of action.
- Drive escalated issues toward resolution, restore equipment functionality, and support a positive customer outcome.
- Travel to customer locations regionally and worldwide, sometimes on short notice, to support critical escalated issues on-site.
- Document troubleshooting processes, diagnostic results, technical findings, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
- Prepare clear service reports and postmortem reports following significant technical events.
- Support equipment installation, relocation, modification, or upgrade activities as needed.
- Provide technical training, knowledge transfer, and troubleshooting guidance to field engineers and other technical personnel.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated hands-on equipment problem-solving and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience working with semiconductor manufacturing equipment, semiconductor capital equipment, or other sophisticated capital equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot integrated systems involving optical, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, computer-control, and software components.
- Ability to move beyond symptom identification and perform structured fault isolation and root-cause problem solving.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across field service, product support, engineering, and specialist teams.
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly through written reports, troubleshooting documentation, and technical training.
- Ability to remain customer-focused and solution-oriented while supporting urgent or high-impact equipment issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Level Degree and 0 years related work experience; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 2 years or equivalent years of experience.

Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Product Support Engineer must require a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field to qualify as a specialty occupation. Pull the O*NET profile for your exact job code to confirm the degree requirement before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Product Support Engineer roles by employers who have filed LCAs for this title. DOL disclosure data shows which companies have a real sponsorship track record, not just an open requisition.
Document your technical depth before registration
USCIS scrutinizes Product Support Engineer petitions more when the role overlaps with generalist helpdesk work. Gather architecture diagrams, escalation logs, or API documentation you've authored to demonstrate the role requires specialized engineering knowledge.
Ask recruiters about cap-exempt entity eligibility
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government research institutions are cap-exempt H-1B employers. Product Support Engineer roles at these entities can start immediately without waiting for the October 1 fiscal year start date.
Confirm your prevailing wage level with OFLC Wage Search
Product Support Engineers are frequently filed at Level I or II. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location before negotiating an offer, so the LCA wage matches what you'll actually be paid.
Request premium processing for tight transition timelines
If you're changing employers and your current H-1B grace period is running down, ask your new employer to file with premium processing. USCIS adjudicates premium petitions within 15 business days, reducing the gap between authorization periods.
H-1B Visa Product Support Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Support Engineer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, software engineering, or information systems. Roles that accept any degree or substitute years of experience for a degree without a clear equivalency argument are at higher risk of an RFE from USCIS challenging specialty occupation status.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Product Support Engineers?
SaaS companies, cloud infrastructure providers, enterprise software vendors, and fintech firms file the most LCAs for Product Support Engineer titles. These employers typically need engineers who can troubleshoot integrations, debug APIs, and manage escalations that require deep product knowledge. You can browse verified H-1B sponsors for this role directly on Migrate Mate.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer as a Product Support Engineer?
Yes. Under the H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new H-1B petition, as long as your previous status was lawfully maintained. You don't need to wait for USCIS approval, but the new employer must file before your current authorized period ends.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for this role?
A detailed job duty description showing the role requires specialized engineering knowledge is critical. Supporting documents include architecture or system design materials you've contributed to, evidence of escalation ownership, any certifications in relevant platforms, and a clear explanation of how your degree field maps to the technical requirements of the position.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Product Support Engineer job seekers?
If your target employer is a cap-subject company, your petition enters the annual H-1B lottery with 65,000 regular cap slots and an additional 20,000 for U.S. master's degree holders. Selection isn't guaranteed, so many candidates apply to multiple cap-subject employers simultaneously or prioritize cap-exempt organizations to reduce lottery risk.
