Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in Production Supervisor
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires Production Supervisor petitions to show the role demands a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile for your SOC code and confirm your degree field directly aligns with the listed education requirements.
Target manufacturers enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment signals an employer has infrastructure for work authorization compliance. Production facilities in automotive, aerospace, and food processing that contract with federal agencies are legally required to use E-Verify and are more practiced at H-1B filings.
Search employer LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Production Supervisor roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filings. This shows which manufacturers have actually sponsored the role before, so you're not guessing at sponsorship willingness during the application process.
Check prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Run your job title, SOC code, and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before signing anything. Your offered wage must meet the DOL Level I through IV prevailing wage or USCIS can deny the petition, regardless of employer intent.
Clarify shift structure in your LCA work location
Production Supervisor roles often involve multiple shifts or plant floors across different addresses. Each distinct worksite may require a separate LCA posting. Confirm with your employer which physical locations will appear on the petition before filing starts.
Ask about cap-exempt filing if currently on OPT
If you're working at a university-affiliated research facility or nonprofit lab in a production capacity, your employer may qualify as cap-exempt. Cap-exempt H-1B petitions can be filed year-round and aren't subject to the annual lottery.
H-1B Visa Production Supervisor: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Production Supervisor role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. USCIS requires that a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as industrial engineering, manufacturing management, or operations management, be a normal requirement for the position. If the job description accepts any degree or emphasizes on-the-job training over formal education, the petition is at higher risk of a Request for Evidence. Employers should tie specific technical responsibilities to the degree requirement in the petition.
How do I find Production Supervisor employers who actually sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate shows Production Supervisor roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. This is more reliable than applying broadly and asking about sponsorship during interviews. Manufacturers in automotive, semiconductor, and defense sectors file LCAs for this role with the most regularity, based on DOL disclosure data.
Can my employer file an H-1B for a Production Supervisor role that involves multiple plant locations?
Yes, but each worksite where you'll spend a meaningful portion of your time may require a separate LCA posting. DOL requires the LCA to reflect actual work locations, and the employer must post the LCA notice at each site for ten consecutive business days. If your role involves traveling between facilities, your employer should discuss the short-term placement rules with their immigration counsel before filing.
What happens to my H-1B status if the production facility I work at closes or relocates?
If your employer closes the specific site named in your LCA but keeps you employed and transfers you to a new location, they must file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS before you begin working at the new site. A plant closure that results in termination triggers the 60-day grace period, during which you can seek a new sponsor or change status. USCIS requires the employer to cover return transportation costs if they terminate you.
Does working rotating shifts or nights affect my H-1B petition as a Production Supervisor?
No, shift structure doesn't affect petition eligibility. What matters is that your total hours and compensation meet the full-time or part-time threshold declared in the LCA, and that your wage equals or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your location and SOC code. USCIS doesn't distinguish between day and night shifts in adjudication.
