H-1B Visa Project Designer Jobs
Project Designer roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in architecture, industrial design, engineering, or a closely related field. Employers file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery window matters.

Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree directly relates to Project Designer work. A degree in architecture, product design, or mechanical engineering strengthens your petition. Degrees in unrelated fields require a detailed advisory opinion explaining the connection.
Check prevailing wage before accepting offers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that threshold before your employer can file the LCA.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to find Project Designer employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this role. Prior LCA activity signals a hiring process already set up for H-1B sponsorship, reducing friction during offer negotiations.
Build a portfolio that documents specialty occupation
Compile project documentation showing degree-level design decisions, not just execution tasks. USCIS RFEs for Project Designer petitions often challenge whether the role truly requires a bachelor's degree, so your portfolio becomes supporting evidence for your employer's petition.
Understand how project-based work affects your petition
Project Designer roles at consulting or staffing firms often involve third-party client sites, which triggers the itinerary requirement. Your employer must document each worksite location in the LCA and maintain a public access file at each site.

Find Project Designer JobsProject Designer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Designer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires the role to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as architecture, industrial design, or engineering. Job postings that list a degree as preferred rather than required can draw an RFE challenging specialty occupation status. Your employer's job description and your own degree field both need to align clearly with the work being performed.
How do I find Project Designer employers who sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate filters Project Designer jobs by verified H-1B sponsorship history, pulling directly from DOL Labor Condition Application data. This lets you see which employers have filed for this specific role rather than relying on job postings that may claim sponsorship availability without a track record to back it up.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Project Designer role mid-year?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer once they file a new H-1B petition on your behalf, as long as your prior petition was approved and you've maintained valid status. Your new employer must file a new LCA reflecting the Project Designer role at the new worksite before or alongside the transfer petition.
What happens if my Project Designer work spans multiple client sites?
Your employer must file a separate LCA for each geographic area where you'll work if those locations fall outside the metropolitan statistical area listed on the original LCA. The prevailing wage requirement applies independently at each site, so your employer needs to confirm your salary meets the threshold for every location. This is a frequent compliance gap at consulting-model design firms.
Does O*NET classify Project Designer as a specialty occupation?
O*NET profiles the Project Designer occupation under job zones that typically require substantial preparation and a related bachelor's degree, which supports the specialty occupation argument. Referencing the O*NET profile in your H-1B petition documentation helps substantiate that industry practice normally requires a degree for this role, particularly when the job title is non-standard or used differently across employers.
