Map your degree to SOC codes
Quality Manager roles map to SOC 11-3051 in DOL's occupational system. Confirm your degree field aligns with that classification before applying, a mismatch between your credentials and the SOC code is a common RFE trigger for Quality Manager petitions.
Target industries with consistent LCA filings
Manufacturing, medical devices, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals file LCAs for Quality Managers far more regularly than retail or services. Narrowing your search to these sectors on Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified H-1B filing history in your occupation.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and SOC code. Check the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation so you know the wage floor and can negotiate above it, not below.
Get ISO or ASQ credentials documented early
Certifications like ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or ASQ Certified Quality Manager strengthen the specialty occupation argument in your I-129 petition. Gather official certificates and continuing education records now, USCIS officers frequently request documentation that ties credentials to job duties.
Ask about cap-exempt employer eligibility
Quality Managers employed by universities, university-affiliated research organizations, or certain nonprofits can file outside the annual H-1B cap. If your target employers include hospital systems or research institutions, confirm their cap-exempt status before the April filing window to avoid a lottery slot dependency.
Request premium processing at the offer stage
USCIS premium processing reduces the I-129 adjudication window to 15 business days. Negotiate who covers this fee during the offer stage, not after signing, many Quality Manager candidates lose weeks of authorized start time by raising it too late.
H-1B Visa Quality Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Quality Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as engineering, manufacturing technology, or quality assurance. USCIS scrutinizes Quality Manager petitions more than some other roles because the occupation sometimes accepts degrees across multiple unrelated fields. Your employer's job description should tie the degree requirement to specific technical duties, not general management responsibilities.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas for Quality Manager positions?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Quality Manager roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history in that occupation. DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data is public, so you can see which companies have actually certified wages for Quality Manager roles rather than relying on a company's general reputation for sponsorship.
What documentation should I prepare before a Quality Manager H-1B petition is filed?
Your employer will need your official degree transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., professional certifications such as ISO auditor or ASQ credentials, and a detailed letter from a prior employer or academic reference connecting your education to quality management duties. Gaps between your degree field and the Quality Manager SOC code are the most common source of USCIS Requests for Evidence in these petitions.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Quality Manager role mid-year?
Yes. Under AC21 portability, you can transfer your H-1B to a new employer in the same or a similar occupational classification once your I-140 has been approved and your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more. For transfers before that threshold, your new employer files a new H-1B petition and you can begin work once USCIS issues a receipt notice, under the cap-gap rules.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect Quality Manager job offers?
Every employer sponsoring an H-1B for a Quality Manager must file an LCA certifying they'll pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for that role in the work location. The wage level assigned depends on your experience and the complexity of the role. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current prevailing wage for Quality Manager roles in your target city before evaluating any offer.
