Map your degree to the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the Regional Sales Manager position. A business or marketing degree maps cleanly, but an unrelated major needs supporting evidence, like progressive sales management coursework or a related minor, to survive an RFE.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating offers
Run the SOC code 11-2022 (Sales Managers) through the OFLC Wage Search for your target metro area. Your offered salary must meet at least the Level I wage, and many employers benchmark to Level II or III, which affects your negotiating position.
Target employers with cap-exempt H-1B filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Regional Sales Manager roles by employers with verified LCA filing history under the sales manager SOC code, so you're applying to companies that have successfully sponsored this specific role type, not just general H-1B filers.
Ask about E-Verify enrollment before accepting
If you're transitioning from OPT or STEM OPT, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled to maintain work authorization during the cap-gap period. Confirm enrollment status before you sign an offer, since unenrolled employers can't bridge your status through October 1.
Document quota-carrying sales achievements quantifiably
H-1B petitions for sales roles face specialty occupation scrutiny because the degree requirement isn't always obvious to adjudicators. Your resume and employer support letter should tie your degree field directly to territory modeling, pricing analysis, or forecasting responsibilities, not just relationship management.
Time your petition around the April 1 filing window
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed April 1 for an October 1 start date after the March lottery. If you're finishing OPT, your employer needs to have the LCA certified and petition ready before the registration window opens in early March, so start that conversation by January.
H-1B Visa Regional Sales Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Sales Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it's not automatic. USCIS requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as business administration, marketing, or a related discipline. Employers strengthen the petition by showing that the role involves complex market analysis, strategic account planning, or cross-functional coordination that genuinely requires degree-level knowledge, not just sales experience.
How do employers determine the prevailing wage for a Regional Sales Manager H-1B petition?
Employers use the DOL's OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for SOC code 11-2022 in the specific geographic area where you'll work. The wage level (I through IV) depends on experience and complexity. The LCA must certify your offered salary meets or exceeds that prevailing wage before USCIS will adjudicate the I-129 petition.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Regional Sales Manager role at a different company?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file their own LCA and petition covering the new role and location.
How do I find Regional Sales Manager jobs at companies that actively sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Regional Sales Manager roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you can see which companies have sponsored this specific occupation before. That filing history is drawn from DOL disclosure data, giving you a concrete signal of sponsorship willingness rather than relying on job posting language alone.
What happens to my H-1B if my Regional Sales Manager territory or base location changes?
A material change in worksite location typically requires your employer to file an amended I-129 petition with a new LCA covering the new work location, because prevailing wage requirements are geography-specific. Moving to a different metropolitan statistical area before the amendment is filed can create a compliance gap. Confirm the process with your employer's immigration counsel before relocating.
