Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
Sales Support Specialist roles can draw RFEs if your degree is in an unrelated field. Pull the O*NET profile for this occupation and document how your coursework directly supports the job duties your employer will list in the LCA.
Check LCA filings before accepting interviews
Use Migrate Mate to filter Sales Support Specialist roles by employers with verified LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already cleared DOL prevailing-wage certification for this occupation code rather than starting from scratch.
Target industries with consistent H-1B filing patterns
Enterprise software, medical device, and financial services companies file H-1B petitions for Sales Support roles far more consistently than retail or small-business employers. Prioritize companies with dedicated HR compliance teams who understand the LCA and I-129 process.
Confirm the offered wage meets prevailing wage level
Before signing an offer, run the job title and zip code through OFLC Wage Search to confirm the salary meets at least Level I prevailing wage. A below-prevailing-wage offer will fail DOL certification regardless of employer intent.
Ask employers about E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT extensions require E-Verify-enrolled employers, but Sales Support roles rarely appear on the STEM-designated degree list. Confirm E-Verify status upfront so cap-gap planning and OPT extension eligibility are clear before you resign another position.
H-1B Visa Sales Support Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Sales Support Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires the role to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. If the job description accepts any degree or lists it as preferred rather than required, USCIS may issue an RFE. Employers strengthen the petition by tying specific duties to degree-level coursework in business, marketing, or a directly related discipline.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Support Specialists?
Enterprise software companies, medical device manufacturers, and financial services firms are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Sales Support roles because their sales cycles are complex enough to justify degree requirements. Migrate Mate lets you search this occupation filtered by employers with active LCA filing history, so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness during interviews.
Can my employer file an H-1B for a Sales Support role while I'm on OPT?
Yes. Your employer files the H-1B registration in March, and if selected, files the full I-129 petition for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1, the cap-gap rule extends your work authorization automatically, provided your employer filed the petition before your OPT end date and you remain in the same role.
What prevailing wage level applies to Sales Support Specialist H-1B petitions?
Most entry-level Sales Support positions are filed at Level I or Level II under the DOL wage structure, depending on how much independent judgment the role requires. You can verify the applicable wage for your specific location using OFLC Wage Search by entering the SOC code for this occupation and your worksite zip code before finalizing your offer negotiation.
What documentation should I prepare to support an H-1B petition for a Sales Support role?
You'll need your official degree transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree was earned outside the U.S., and documentation linking your academic background to the specific duties in the job description. If your degree title doesn't closely match the role, a detailed course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-member organization helps demonstrate equivalency to USCIS during adjudication.
