Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Salesforce Developer
Verify your degree aligns with Salesforce roles
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to Salesforce development. A computer science or information systems degree is straightforward. An unrelated degree paired with certifications like Salesforce Administrator or Platform Developer I strengthens your specialty occupation case.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Salesforce Developer roles specifically. Past LCA filings signal an employer already understands the H-1B process and has internal infrastructure to sponsor new hires.
Check prevailing wages before salary negotiations
Run your target job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before your offer stage. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing rate, so knowing the wage level thresholds lets you negotiate from an informed position.
Time your job search around the April cap lottery
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. Target your Salesforce Developer job search to secure an offer by February or March, giving your employer enough lead time to file before the registration window closes in March.
Ask employers about cap-exempt sponsorship paths
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions at any time without lottery exposure. Salesforce implementations at these entities create genuine developer roles that sidestep the annual cap entirely.
Clarify the H-1B transfer process when changing employers
You can start working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition with USCIS, without waiting for approval. Confirm your new employer is prepared to file on your first day so your work authorization remains uninterrupted during the transition.
H-1B Visa Salesforce Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Developer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS treats Salesforce Developer positions as specialty occupations when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a directly related field. Employers strengthen the petition by documenting that the position involves complex Apex coding, Salesforce architecture decisions, or system integration work that requires a theoretical and practical body of specialized knowledge.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Salesforce Developer roles?
Salesforce consulting firms, financial services companies, healthcare systems, and enterprise software teams are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Salesforce developers. Migrate Mate surfaces employers by their DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can identify companies that have actively sponsored Salesforce Developer roles rather than relying on employer self-reporting.
Can I use my OPT or STEM OPT as a Salesforce Developer while waiting for H-1B approval?
Yes. If you're on STEM OPT and your employer files your H-1B petition during the cap registration period, the cap-gap rule automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 if your OPT expires before October 1. Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify to use cap-gap coverage, so confirm that before accepting an offer.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage apply to Salesforce Developer positions?
DOL assigns prevailing wages to Salesforce Developer roles using SOC codes tied to software developer or computer systems analyst classifications, depending on how the employer describes the position. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the applicable wage level for your specific work location. You can verify the wage floor for your city using the OFLC Wage Search before entering salary negotiations.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Salesforce Developer role is changed to remote?
A material change in your work location triggers an amended H-1B petition and a new LCA for each new worksite. If your employer shifts you to a permanent remote arrangement in a different metropolitan area, they're required to file an amended petition with USCIS reflecting the new work location and the corresponding prevailing wage. Short-term remote work at the same wage level may not require amendment, but your employer's immigration counsel should make that call.
