Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Salesforce Engineer
Map your degree to Salesforce SOC codes
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation by matching your degree field to the role's SOC code. Pull the O*NET profile for Software Developers or Computer Systems Analysts to confirm which degree fields directly support your target job title before applying.
Filter employers by LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to search H-1B LCA disclosures filtered to Salesforce Engineer roles. Employers with active LCA filings have already navigated DOL certification, which shortens your sponsorship timeline significantly compared to first-time sponsors.
Prioritize Salesforce ISV partners and consulting firms
Independent software vendors and Salesforce consulting partners file H-1B petitions regularly because their project pipelines depend on certified Salesforce talent. Targeting this employer segment increases your odds of reaching a recruiter familiar with the sponsorship process.
Request prevailing wage documentation before signing
Your offer must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job zone and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your specific SOC code and metropolitan area, then confirm your offered salary meets or exceeds that figure before the LCA is certified.
Time your application around the cap-subject H-1B window
Cap-subject H-1B petitions open for registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, confirm your OPT end date and cap-gap eligibility with your DSO so you understand exactly how long you can work while your petition is pending.
Get your Salesforce certifications verified before filing
USCIS may issue an RFE if your degree field doesn't directly align with the Salesforce Engineer title. Active certifications like Salesforce Administrator or Platform Developer II strengthen the specialty occupation argument your employer's attorney will build into Form I-129.
H-1B Visa Salesforce Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Engineer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies Salesforce Engineer roles under software developer or computer systems analyst SOC codes, both of which require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation when the employer's job description specifies a degree requirement in computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas for Salesforce Engineers?
Search Migrate Mate to browse Salesforce Engineer roles filtered by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history. DOL publishes LCA disclosure data each quarter, so an employer's past filings for similar roles are the most reliable signal that they'll sponsor again rather than requiring you to educate HR from scratch.
Can my employer sponsor my H-1B while I'm still on OPT?
Yes. If you're on OPT, your employer can file your H-1B petition during the March registration window for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're selected in the lottery, the cap-gap rule automatically extends your work authorization through September 30, provided your employer files before your OPT end date.
Does a Salesforce consulting firm count as a cap-exempt employer?
Most Salesforce consulting firms are cap-subject employers, meaning your petition enters the annual H-1B lottery. Cap-exempt status applies only to qualifying nonprofit research organizations, higher education institutions, and their affiliated entities. If you want to avoid the lottery entirely, you'd need to find a role at one of those specific employer types.
What happens to my H-1B petition if I want to switch from one Salesforce role to a different employer?
You can transfer your H-1B to a new employer under AC21 portability rules once your petition has been pending for 180 days and the new role is in the same or a substantially similar occupational classification. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition with USCIS, and you can start working for them as soon as the receipt notice is issued, without waiting for approval.
