H-1B Visa Scrum Master Jobs
Scrum Master roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship under the specialty occupation category, typically requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Employers filing an LCA must certify the offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your work location, and most large tech and financial services firms sponsor regularly.

Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to the Scrum Master role. A degree in computer science, information systems, or project management is strongest. Business or unrelated degrees can trigger an RFE, so prepare a degree equivalency letter before applying.
Check the LCA before accepting an offer
Ask your employer to share the certified LCA before you sign anything. The LCA locks in your job title, worksite, and prevailing wage level. If your actual responsibilities exceed what's listed, USCIS may issue an RFE during adjudication.
Target employers with agile delivery teams
Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies with active H-1B LCA filings under Scrum Master and related SOC codes. Employers running scaled agile frameworks across multiple product teams file more consistently and are less likely to withdraw petitions mid-process.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
Run your job title and intended worksite ZIP code through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating. Wage Level II or III is standard for experienced Scrum Masters. An offer at Level I for a senior role raises compliance risk for your employer and can delay your petition.
Confirm your employer is enrolled in E-Verify
H-1B employers aren't universally required to use E-Verify, but many regulated industries and federal contractors are. Confirming enrollment early tells you whether your employer has a consistent compliance process, which reduces the chance of I-9 or status issues after you start.
Account for the lottery window in your job search timeline
H-1B cap registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, map your OPT end date against that timeline. Cap-exempt employers, including nonprofits and universities with qualifying research functions, can file outside the lottery window entirely.
H-1B Visa Scrum Master: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Scrum Master role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
Yes, but the classification depends on how the employer defines the role. USCIS requires the position to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Scrum Masters tied to software delivery, product development, or engineering teams generally qualify. Roles described as general project coordination without a technical degree requirement are more likely to face an RFE or denial.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Scrum Master roles?
Technology companies, financial services firms, healthcare systems, and management consulting firms are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Scrum Master positions. Companies running scaled agile programs across multiple product lines file more regularly. Use Migrate Mate to search for employers with verified LCA filings under Scrum Master and related job titles in your target location.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I change Scrum Master roles?
Yes. H-1B portability lets you start working for a new employer once the transfer petition is filed, without waiting for approval, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you haven't been out of status. Your new employer files a fresh I-129. The job title and duties must still meet specialty occupation requirements, so a significant scope change warrants a new LCA.
What happens to my H-1B if my Scrum Master contract ends or my role is eliminated?
You have a 60-day grace period after your employment ends to find a new sponsor, change status, or depart. Your employer is required to pay for your return transportation home if they terminate you before your H-1B period ends. Acting quickly matters because you can't work during the grace period, and filing a transfer petition before it expires preserves your lawful status.
Does the SOC code my employer uses on the LCA affect my H-1B petition?
Yes. The Standard Occupational Classification code your employer selects determines the prevailing wage tier USCIS and DOL apply to your petition. Scrum Masters are most often filed under SOC 15-1299 or 11-3021. If the code doesn't match your actual duties, it creates a wage compliance gap that can surface during an audit or RFE. Check the O*NET profile for your SOC code to confirm the duties description aligns with your offer letter.
