We are the Apple Services Engineering (ASE) Security team. We build the secure systems and infrastructure that power Apple services like iCloud, Apple Music, Siri, and the App Store. We are expanding our team and looking for a Security Engineering Manager to lead the team that will help create next-generation security tools and services that safeguard Apple’s ecosystem, playing a direct role in protecting one of the most trusted and visible technology companies in the world.
Description
In this role, you will own the strategy and execution for integrating security tools into engineering pipelines across Apple Services. You'll lead a team of engineers building production-grade automation and integrations that enable vulnerability management, assurance, and other security programs to operate at scale, without slowing down product teams. You'll partner with engineering leadership to shape how security is embedded across the organization, define what good looks like, and build the systems and culture to get there.
This team is in a growth phase. You'll have influence over how the program is structured, where it invests, and what security looks like for Apple Services over the next several years.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers building the tooling and automation that power Apple Services' security programs - from pipeline integrations to workflow automation to shared security services
- Define and drive the roadmap for embedding security into development pipelines, balancing rigor with developer velocity
- Partner with vulnerability management, assurance, and other security programs to build integrations that help them operate across a large, fast-moving engineering organization
- Influence how security is adopted across teams you don't directly own - through tooling design, partnerships, and making the right thing the easy thing
- Make the program: define the metrics, tell the story of security posture, and connect engineering investments to business risk
- Hire and develop strong engineers; build a team culture where technical excellence and security ownership go hand in hand
Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in security engineering or a related technical discipline
- 10+ years leading technical teams
- Track record of building or scaling security programs that serve multiple engineering organizations
- Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain strong engineering talent
- Experience influencing senior leadership on security strategy and investment priorities
- Strong communicator - able to translate security risk into terms that resonate with engineering and business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-velocity, product-focused engineering environments
- Background in software or platform engineering - ability to engage meaningfully on architecture and production systems
- Experience building shared security platforms or services consumed across multiple teams
- Familiarity with DevSecOps tooling (SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets scanning) and CI/CD pipeline integration
- Experience driving adoption of security tooling across organizational boundaries without direct authority
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development practices and how they're changing secure software delivery

Map your credentials to specialty occupation
USCIS evaluates Security Engineering Manager roles under the specialty occupation standard, which requires a directly related bachelor's degree or higher. Document how your degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems maps to your managerial and technical duties.
Target employers with defense or FedRAMP obligations
Companies holding federal contracts or FedRAMP authorizations must staff certified security leadership, which drives consistent H-1B filings for this title. Filter by industry sector on Migrate Mate to surface employers with verified LCA filing history in security engineering.
Verify prevailing wage level before negotiating
The DOL assigns a wage level to your LCA based on your duties and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level III and IV wages for the Information Security Analysts or Computer and Information Systems Managers SOC code in your target metro.
Confirm your employer understands dual-role filings
Manager-level roles that include hands-on engineering work sometimes require the LCA to reflect blended duties. Ask your prospective employer whether their immigration counsel has filed for hybrid individual-contributor and management roles before, since mismatches trigger RFEs.
Use the 60-day grace period strategically
If you're transitioning from a previous H-1B employer, you have a 60-day grace period after your end date to secure a new sponsor and file an H-1B transfer. Prioritize employers who can submit the transfer petition quickly so your authorization doesn't lapse.
Check O*NET for job zone classification evidence
O*NET classifies Security Engineering Manager work as Job Zone 4 to 5, requiring a bachelor's degree or higher. Referencing this classification in your RFE response or initial petition strengthens the specialty occupation argument if USCIS questions the role.

Find Security Engineering Manager JobsSecurity Engineering Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Engineering Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems. USCIS looks at whether the degree requirement is standard for the position across the industry. Roles that accept any degree, regardless of field, are more likely to face a specialty occupation challenge.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Security Engineering Manager positions?
Large technology companies, financial services firms, and federal defense contractors sponsor this role most consistently because they operate under regulatory frameworks that mandate certified security leadership. Healthcare systems and cloud platform providers also file LCAs for this title at scale. You can browse employers with active filing histories for security engineering roles on Migrate Mate.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect Security Engineering Manager job offers?
Your employer's LCA must certify that your offered salary meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for the SOC code and geographic area assigned to your role. Security Engineering Manager duties often map to a Level III or Level IV wage, which is the higher end of the wage scale. A salary below that threshold will cause the LCA to fail certification.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I'm currently a Security Engineering Manager?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed, without waiting for approval, as long as you're in valid H-1B status. Your new employer files a new I-129 petition with a fresh LCA reflecting your updated duties, location, and wage. The existing approval period generally carries over.
What should I watch for in an H-1B petition for a Security Engineering Manager role?
Verify that the LCA job duties description accurately reflects both the engineering and management components of your work. Vague duty descriptions or a mismatch between your actual responsibilities and the LCA are common triggers for a Request for Evidence from USCIS. Your employer's immigration counsel should also confirm that the SOC code selected aligns with your day-to-day scope.
