Verify your degree maps to SOC codes
Cloud Solutions Architect roles file under SOC code 15-1299 or 15-1252. Check O*NET to confirm your degree field aligns with the job zone classification USCIS expects, since mismatches trigger Requests for Evidence.
Research LCA wage levels before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up prevailing wages for your target metro area before your offer call. Employers must certify at least Level I, but senior roles typically require Level III or IV, which affects your negotiating floor.
Target employers with cloud-specific LCA history
On Migrate Mate, filter by employers who have filed LCAs for cloud architecture or systems architect job titles. Prior filings in your specialty signal an established H-1B process, reducing delays from employer inexperience.
Clarify multi-cloud scope in your petition documents
USCIS scrutinizes whether cloud architect roles require a specific degree field. Prepare a detailed duties memo that ties AWS, Azure, or GCP responsibilities to computer science or engineering coursework, not just vendor certifications.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
H-1B employers must be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask your recruiter to confirm enrollment status during the offer stage, not after signing, since gaps in enrollment can stall your I-9 and delay your start date.
Time your lottery registration around contract end dates
The H-1B cap registration window opens in March for an October 1 start. If your OPT or current status expires before October 1, ask whether cap-exempt employers, such as universities or nonprofit research institutions, can bridge the gap.
H-1B Visa Senior Cloud Solutions Architect: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Cloud Solutions Architect falls within the computer-related occupations USCIS recognizes as specialty occupations, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a closely related field. If the job posting lists a degree as preferred rather than required, your employer should revise the description before filing the Labor Condition Application, since USCIS looks at the actual job requirements to confirm specialty occupation status.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Cloud Solutions Architects?
Cloud hyperscalers, enterprise software firms, management consulting companies, and financial services institutions are among the most consistent H-1B filers for senior cloud architecture roles. You can browse employers with verified H-1B filing history for this job title on Migrate Mate, which surfaces Labor Condition Application data so you can see which companies have sponsored similar roles in your target metro area.
How does prevailing wage affect H-1B sponsorship for this role?
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying they'll pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job title before USCIS can process the H-1B petition. Senior cloud architect roles typically fall at wage Level III or IV due to the supervisory and cross-functional scope involved. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific metro area before entering salary negotiations.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new cloud architect employer mid-year?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for USCIS approval, provided you're maintaining valid H-1B status. The new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application and I-129 petition. Because cloud architect roles vary significantly in scope, your new employer's petition should document how the responsibilities match your degree field to avoid a Request for Evidence.
Do vendor certifications like AWS or Google Cloud count toward H-1B eligibility?
Vendor certifications alone don't satisfy the H-1B specialty occupation requirement. USCIS requires a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a directly related academic field. Certifications can support your petition as evidence of specialized expertise, but they don't substitute for the degree requirement. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization can establish equivalency before your employer files.
