Map your degree to specialty occupation criteria
USCIS evaluates whether your degree field directly relates to front end development. A computer science or software engineering degree is the clearest fit. If your degree is in a different field, gather course transcripts showing programming, UI engineering, or web architecture coursework.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Front End Developer roles by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application history. This surfaces companies that have already completed DOL wage certification for this occupation code, shortening your path from offer to petition.
Check prevailing wage before evaluating offers
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level I through Level IV wages for front end developer roles in your metro area before comparing any offer.
Clarify cap-exempt status with potential employers
Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and government research entities are exempt from the H-1B annual cap. If you're open to roles outside pure tech companies, cap-exempt employers can file petitions year-round without waiting for the October 1 start date.
Request premium processing when your project timeline is fixed
If an employer needs you to start within a specific sprint cycle or product launch window, ask them to file with USCIS premium processing. This reduces adjudication to 15 business days and gives both sides a reliable start date to plan against.
Align your portfolio with O*NET task requirements
USCIS adjudicators assess whether your actual duties match a specialty occupation. Review the O*NET profile for software developers and web developers, then document how your portfolio projects, GitHub contributions, and past job duties map to those listed tasks.
H-1B Visa Senior Front End Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Front End Developer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS treats senior front end development as a specialty occupation because the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. If the job description accepts any bachelor's degree without a field requirement, your employer should document why the specific technical duties still demand specialized degree-level knowledge.
How do I find employers who are actively sponsoring H-1B visas for front end developer roles?
Search Migrate Mate to browse Senior Front End Developer openings filtered by employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history. This lets you focus your applications on companies that have already demonstrated willingness to go through DOL and USCIS processes for this occupation, rather than hoping an employer will sponsor after you apply.
Can a contract or consulting arrangement support an H-1B petition for this role?
It can, but the employer-employee relationship must be clearly established. USCIS scrutinizes third-party placement arrangements for front end developers at client sites. Your sponsoring employer must demonstrate they control your daily work, assign your tasks, and have the right to terminate your employment, not just the end client where you're placed.
What happens to my H-1B status if my employer's project or funding is cut mid-petition?
If your employer withdraws the H-1B petition before USCIS approves it, the petition is abandoned. If you're already on an approved H-1B and employment ends, you have a 60-day grace period to find a new employer who can file a transfer petition. Starting your job search before the official termination date gives you the most runway within that window.
Does a remote Senior Front End Developer role create any H-1B compliance complications?
Yes. Your employer must file a separate Labor Condition Application for each worksite location where you'll work more than 30 days in a year. If you work remotely from a different metro area than your employer's office, they may need an amended or supplemental LCA covering your home address. Changing your remote work location without updating the LCA can create a DOL compliance issue.
