ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Social Media Manager is a platform-savvy, creatively driven team member who brings brand strategies to life through compelling content, consistent community engagement, and data-informed optimization. This role is central to the day-to-day execution of social programs across multiple client accounts, working closely with strategists, creators, and account teams to deliver content that resonates with audiences and drives meaningful results.
What You’ll Do Here
- Manage and execute content calendars across platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, Reddit, X, and Pinterest.
- Track performance metrics on a monthly and quarterly basis, highlighting top-performing content and proactively flagging low-performing posts.
- Utilize social measurement and scheduling tools at an intermediate level — including Sprinklr, Meta Business Manager, Sprout Social, and social listening platforms.
- Understand how KPIs are calculated, what they mean, and what they measure; contribute to client reporting with performance insights and observations.
- Identify trends from platforms and competitors by proactively following and tracking both; flag relevant opportunities to the Social Strategist or Senior Strategist.
- Explore user comments, questions, and UGC for inspiration and audience insights; support community management across active brand accounts.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of brand followers and their communities, applying that knowledge to content recommendations.
- Transform content ideas and briefs from Social Strategists into coherent outlines, copy, and platform-ready posts with minimal supervision.
- Write captions and short-form copy that match a predefined tone of voice and platform best practices.
- Ensure all published content meets accessibility standards (alt text, readable text overlays, sound-off design).
- Contribute ideas during brainstorming sessions based on industry trends, competitor activity, and community feedback.
- Confidently communicate with creative and account teams to align on needs, flag blockers, and ensure timely delivery.
- Flag posts that need updates due to platform changes and escalate issues appropriately.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a relevant field.
- 2–4 years of experience managing social media for brands, preferably in an agency setting.
- Experience with social media scheduling and analytics tools (Sprinklr, Sprout, Hootsuite, or similar).
- Experience writing social copy and managing content calendars.

- Basic understanding of social analytics and reporting.
- Experience with short-form video content and platform-native tools is a plus.

- Curiosity and enthusiasm for social media culture, trends, and platform innovation.

Confirm your role meets specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Marketing Managers to verify the degree requirement language. Your offer letter and job description must specify a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, not just "preferred", that distinction is what USCIS scrutinizes most.
Check prevailing wage before accepting offers
Run your job title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiations. Your employer's LCA must certify they'll pay at least the prevailing wage for Level I through IV, and accepting below that rate will delay or block certification.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Social Media Manager roles by employers who have filed LCAs for this occupation, that history signals a working H-1B sponsorship process rather than a first-time guess.
Ask about cap-exempt employer status early
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and certain research institutions are cap-exempt, meaning your H-1B can be filed outside the April lottery window. Social media roles at these employers are less common but exist, especially in brand and communications teams.
Document cross-functional scope in your resume
USCIS RFEs for Social Media Manager petitions often challenge whether the role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Evidence that your work involves analytics platforms, marketing automation tools, and integrated campaign strategy strengthens the specialty occupation argument.
Plan your petition timeline around the lottery
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT with a cap-gap, confirm your employer files the I-129 before your EAD expires. Premium processing through USCIS cuts the adjudication window significantly if timing is tight.
H-1B Visa Social Media Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Social Media Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as marketing, communications, digital media, or business. The job description must treat the degree as a requirement, not a preference. Roles that blend content strategy, performance analytics, and campaign management tend to satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard more reliably than generalist coordinator titles.
Which employers commonly sponsor H-1B visas for Social Media Managers?
Consumer brands, technology companies, media publishers, and agencies with large marketing departments are the most frequent sponsors for this occupation. Employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for marketing management roles in the past are your strongest leads. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history for Social Media Manager and related titles, so you can prioritize outreach accordingly.
What SOC code does USCIS use for Social Media Manager H-1B petitions?
Most petitions for Social Media Manager roles are filed under SOC code 11-2021, Marketing Managers. Some employers use 11-2011 (Advertising and Promotions Managers) depending on how the role is scoped. The SOC code affects your prevailing wage level, so confirm with your employer which code their attorney plans to use before the LCA is submitted to DOL.
Can my employer file my H-1B petition if they have never sponsored a visa before?
Yes, there's no requirement that an employer have prior sponsorship experience. They must be enrolled in E-Verify, obtain an FEIN, and work with an immigration attorney to file the LCA with DOL and the I-129 petition with USCIS. First-time sponsors sometimes face longer processing times due to additional USCIS scrutiny of the employer's ability to pay the prevailing wage.
How does an H-1B RFE affect a Social Media Manager petition, and how common are they?
RFEs for Social Media Manager petitions typically challenge whether the role requires a specialized degree or whether the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for that location and level. Responding requires detailed documentation of job duties, your academic credentials, and the employer's compensation structure. A well-drafted initial petition with strong job duty language and degree requirement specificity reduces RFE risk significantly.
