Verify your degree field supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to directly relate to strategic sourcing duties. A supply chain, operations management, or business degree is straightforward. An unrelated degree paired with sourcing certifications like CPSM can strengthen your case but may draw an RFE.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter LCA disclosures under SOC code 11-3061, the classification covering purchasing and supply chain managers. This shows which employers have certified wages for this exact title and are actively hiring H-1B workers.
Target cap-exempt employers in healthcare and research
Hospitals, university-affiliated health systems, and nonprofit research institutions are cap-exempt, letting you start anytime without waiting for the October lottery. Strategic sourcing roles in procurement and supply chain exist across all these sectors.
Find H-1B sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Strategic Sourcing Manager jobs by verified H-1B filing history, so you're only applying to employers who have sponsored this role before. That eliminates the guesswork of asking HR about sponsorship policies upfront.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
DOL assigns four wage levels for each SOC code and location. A Level I or II wage offer may undercut the prevailing wage for a senior role, which USCIS scrutinizes. Cross-check any offer against the OFLC Wage Search before your employer files the LCA.
Negotiate premium processing into your offer letter
USCIS premium processing guarantees a decision within 15 business days. For Strategic Sourcing Manager roles with defined project start dates or contract deadlines, ask your employer to commit to premium processing in writing before you give notice at your current job.
H-1B Visa Strategic Sourcing Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Strategic Sourcing Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as supply chain management, business administration, or operations. USCIS evaluates the job description, not just the title, so the duties must align with that degree requirement. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are more likely to face an RFE.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for Strategic Sourcing Manager jobs?
Manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, technology, and healthcare supply chains are the heaviest filers for this role. These sectors run large procurement operations with complex supplier networks that demand specialized sourcing expertise. You can verify which employers have filed LCAs for this occupation by searching the OFLC Wage Search or browsing verified H-1B employers on Migrate Mate.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Strategic Sourcing Manager role at a different company?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file a transfer petition, as long as your current status is valid and you've been in H-1B status for at least 180 days. The new employer must file Form I-129 and a new LCA covering the specific role, location, and prevailing wage before your start date.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Strategic Sourcing Manager role is eliminated in a layoff?
You have a 60-day grace period from your last day of employment to find a new H-1B sponsor, change to another visa status, or depart the U.S. During this window, you can't work. If a new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before the 60 days expire, you're authorized to resume work upon filing. Act quickly, as USCIS does not extend the grace period.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect Strategic Sourcing Manager job offers?
DOL requires your employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for your occupation, experience level, and work location before USCIS approves the petition. For Strategic Sourcing Manager roles, wage levels vary significantly by metro area and seniority. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the applicable wage before negotiating, so you can confirm the offer meets the threshold your employer must certify.
