Map your degree to the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to Training Manager duties. Organizational development, instructional design, HR management, and education all qualify. A general business degree may trigger an RFE, so document every coursework connection before your employer files.
Target cap-exempt employers first
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations are exempt from the 85,000-slot cap. Training Manager roles at these employers can start any time of year, so you aren't locked into a single April lottery window.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level II or Level III prevailing wage for Training Manager under SOC code 11-3131 in your target metro. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure or DOL won't certify the LCA.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Training Manager openings by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. This narrows your list to companies that have already cleared DOL certification for this occupation, cutting out employers who hesitate once you disclose your visa status.
Clarify the specialty occupation in your offer letter
Ask your employer to specify that the Training Manager role requires a degree in a directly related field, not just any bachelor's degree. Vague offer letters are a leading cause of specialty occupation RFEs for training and HR-adjacent roles.
File I-129 during premium processing if start date is tight
USCIS adjudicates I-129 petitions within 15 business days under premium processing. If your OPT or current status expires close to your intended start date, ask your employer to elect premium processing when they file to avoid a gap.

Find Training Manager JobsTraining Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Training Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific related field such as instructional design, organizational development, human resources, or education. If the job description says any degree is acceptable, USCIS may deny the specialty occupation claim. Your employer's offer letter and job description need to specify the degree requirement clearly.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Training Manager positions?
Large corporations with dedicated L&D departments, healthcare systems, government contractors, and universities are consistent H-1B sponsors for Training Manager roles. You can browse employers with verified LCA filing history for this occupation on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for companies that have already filed for H-1B workers in training and development roles.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Training Manager H-1B petitions?
DOL requires your employer to certify on the LCA that your salary meets the prevailing wage for Training Manager in your work location, using SOC code 11-3131. The wage level depends on your duties, supervisory responsibilities, and experience. You can check the applicable wage using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer, so you know the floor your employer must meet.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Training Manager role at a different company?
Yes. Under AC21 portability rules, you can transfer your H-1B to a new employer while your petition remains valid, as long as the new Training Manager role is in the same or a substantially similar occupational classification. Your new employer files an H-1B transfer petition with USCIS, and you can start working as soon as they receive the receipt notice.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Training Manager position is eliminated?
You have a 60-day grace period after losing H-1B employment to find a new sponsor, change status, or depart. During that window, you can't work, but you can negotiate a new offer and have a new employer file a transfer petition. Acting quickly matters because USCIS must receive the new petition before the grace period expires.
