Map your degree to SOC codes
Trust and Safety roles span multiple SOC codes depending on whether your work is policy, engineering, or operations. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your target title to confirm the degree field match USCIS expects before applying.
Target platforms with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filings for Trust and Safety titles. This surfaces companies that have already committed to sponsoring roles like yours, not just ones with open headcount.
Flag E-Verify enrollment before negotiating
Confirm your prospective employer is enrolled in E-Verify before the offer stage. STEM OPT extensions require it, and Trust and Safety teams at startups sometimes lack it despite having legal and compliance infrastructure elsewhere.
Document cross-functional scope in your resume
USCIS scrutinizes whether Trust and Safety work qualifies as a specialty occupation. Your resume and employer support letter should explicitly tie each responsibility to a theoretical and practical application of your degree field.
Check prevailing wage before your offer letter
Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before finalizing your offer. Your employer's LCA must certify wages at or above the DOL prevailing wage, and knowing Level I versus Level II rates helps you spot underbidding early.
Request premium processing for tight OPT timelines
If your OPT expiration falls before the October 1 cap-gap start date, ask your employer to file with premium processing. USCIS guarantees a 15-business-day adjudication window, which can prevent a gap in your work authorization.

Find Trust And Safety JobsTrust And Safety H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Trust and Safety jobs qualify as H-1B specialty occupations?
Yes, when the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, law, linguistics, or social science. The key is that the employer's job description must establish a direct connection between the degree field and the duties performed. Generalist roles that accept any degree are harder to support and may draw a Request for Evidence from USCIS.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Trust and Safety roles?
Large tech platforms, social media companies, fintech firms, and gaming companies are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for Trust and Safety positions. You can search verified H-1B filing history by employer and job title on Migrate Mate, which pulls from DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data so you're seeing actual filings rather than self-reported claims.
What documentation strengthens an H-1B petition for a Trust and Safety role?
Your employer's support letter should detail how each core duty, such as policy enforcement, content review, or abuse detection, requires specialized knowledge tied to a specific academic field. Academic transcripts showing a relevant major, a degree equivalency evaluation if your credential is from outside the U.S., and any certifications in data ethics or digital policy all reinforce the specialty occupation argument.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Trust and Safety employer mid-year?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed with USCIS, without waiting for approval, provided you've been in valid H-1B status and the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. The 60-day grace period after leaving a previous employer also applies if you need time between roles.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Trust and Safety job seekers?
If you're currently on OPT and your employer is a for-profit company, your H-1B petition enters the annual lottery capped at 85,000 slots. USCIS opens registration each March for an October 1 start date. Employers at cap-exempt organizations, such as universities and qualifying nonprofits, can file at any time and bypass the lottery entirely, which is worth factoring into your job search strategy.
