Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Android Engineer
Verify your degree field matches Android engineering
The H-1B1 Chile requires a specialty occupation with a directly related bachelor's degree. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly, but an unrelated degree may need a credential evaluation and experience documentation before your LCA is certified.
Search LCA filings for Android engineering roles
DOL certifies every H-1B visa1 Labor Condition Application before your consulate appointment. Use the OFLC Wage Search to find employers who have filed LCAs under SOC code 15-1252 and confirm they have active H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history, not just H-1B visa.
Find H-1B1 Chile sponsors on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history, so you're targeting employers who have already sponsored Chilean nationals rather than guessing from general job postings.
Use O*NET to strengthen your specialty occupation case
Android Engineer maps to O*NET's Software Developers occupation, which designates Job Zone 4 and requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Reference this profile when your employer is drafting the LCA to preempt any specialty occupation questions at the consulate.
Negotiate who covers the LCA filing costs
Unlike H-1B, the H-1B1 Chile has no USCIS filing fee, but the employer still bears DOL LCA costs. Get written confirmation before signing your offer that the employer will file and fund the LCA so there are no delays between your job acceptance and your consulate appointment.
Time your consulate appointment around Sprint cycles
H-1B1 Chile visas are issued for one year and require annual consular renewal. Android engineering roles often have project-critical phases. Schedule your renewal appointment during a low-intensity Sprint period so a processing delay doesn't disrupt a product launch or release cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Android Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes. Android engineering requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the H-1B1 Chile specialty occupation standard. DOL certifies this when your employer files the Labor Condition Application under the Software Developers SOC code. If your employer lists the role more broadly, ask them to specify mobile software development in the job duties.
How does H-1B1 Chile compare to H-1B for Android Engineer jobs?
H-1B1 Chile skips the lottery entirely and is processed directly at the U.S. consulate in Chile, not through USCIS. The 1,400-visa annual cap for Chilean nationals has never been exhausted, so there's no wait for a slot. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 Chile doesn't allow dual intent, so you can't use it as a direct path to a green card the way some H-1B holders do.
How do I find Android Engineer employers who sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Android Engineer roles filtered by verified H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history. This shows employers who have already navigated the DOL certification process for Chilean nationals, which is a much stronger signal than a general 'visa sponsorship available' tag on a job posting.
Can I switch Android engineering jobs while on H-1B1 Chile status?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and get it certified before you can start. Unlike H-1B, H-1B1 Chile doesn't allow portability under AC21, so you can't begin working for the new employer the moment the petition is filed. Plan for a gap between your last day and your new LCA certification date.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my Android engineering project is paused or my role changes?
H-1B1 Chile status is tied to the specific job and employer listed on your certified LCA. If your role shifts substantially, for example from Android engineer to a general product manager role, your employer may need to file an amended LCA. A project pause that keeps you on payroll in your original role doesn't require a new filing, but a title change with different job duties typically does.
