H-1B1 Chile Visa Firmware Jobs
H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship lets Chilean firmware engineers work in the U.S. without entering the H-1B lottery. With a 1,400-visa annual cap that rarely fills and consulate-based processing, qualified candidates with a job offer in embedded systems or hardware development can move faster than most visa categories allow.

Benchmark your firmware role against OFLC wages
Before applying anywhere, run your target job title through the OFLC Wage Search to see the prevailing wage for your metro area. Employers must certify this wage on the LCA, so knowing the floor helps you evaluate offers and flag underpaying roles early.
Verify your degree field matches the petition
H-1B1 visa requires a specialty occupation with a direct-field degree. A Chilean electronics engineering degree supporting a firmware role is clean. A business or unrelated STEM degree covering the same role will draw scrutiny, so gather credential evaluation documentation before the employer files.
Target employers already filing LCAs for firmware titles
Search Migrate Mate to find U.S. employers with verified LCA filing history for firmware and embedded systems roles. These companies have already navigated the H-1B1 paperwork, making them far more likely to extend an offer that includes visa sponsorship.
Ask employers about their E-Verify enrollment upfront
H-1B1 workers must be employed by an E-Verify-enrolled employer. Raise this during initial conversations, not after an offer is extended. If a prospective employer isn't enrolled, the petition cannot proceed and you'll have wasted time in the interview process.
Prepare your LCA and DS-160 documents in parallel
Once your employer submits the LCA to DOL, consulate scheduling can begin immediately after certification. Have your DS-160 answers, Chilean passport, and employment offer letter ready so you're not losing weeks to document prep after the LCA clears.
Use the O*NET profile to strengthen your specialty occupation case
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your firmware job code and confirm it lists a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science as a standard entry requirement. This documentation directly supports the specialty occupation determination USCIS and consular officers assess.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does firmware engineering qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes. Firmware engineering requires at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation definition. The O*NET profile for embedded systems and firmware roles consistently lists these degrees as standard entry requirements, giving employers a solid basis for the LCA filing.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for firmware engineers?
The H-1B1 skips the lottery entirely and processes at the consulate rather than through USCIS, which means faster timelines for Chilean firmware engineers with a job offer. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on H-1B1 status the way some H-1B holders do.
How do I find U.S. companies that sponsor H-1B1 visas for firmware roles?
Use Migrate Mate to search employers with verified LCA filing history in firmware and embedded systems. Companies that have already filed LCAs for these roles understand the process and are more likely to extend sponsorship offers. Filtering by occupation code and metro area narrows results to employers actively hiring for your specific skill set.
What happens if my H-1B1 petition is still pending when my current status expires?
H-1B1 doesn't have the same automatic cap-gap protection as H-1B. If your current visa status expires before your next H-1B1 is approved, you'd need to stop working and resolve the gap. Planning your renewal or employer transfer well before your status expiration date is essential to avoid an interruption in authorization.
Can a Chilean firmware engineer switch employers while on H-1B1 status?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new H-1B1 visa stamp before starting work. Unlike H-1B portability rules, you can't begin working for the new employer based on a pending petition alone. The new consulate appointment and LCA certification must complete first.
