Verify your degree aligns with the role
H-1B1 visa requires a specialty occupation, meaning your degree field must directly relate to frontend engineering. A computer science or software engineering degree is straightforward. An unrelated degree with heavy programming coursework can create RFE risk, so confirm the match before applying.
Pull the O*NET profile before salary negotiations
Frontend Engineer roles span two DOL wage levels depending on autonomy and complexity. Check the O*NET occupation profile and cross-reference with OFLC Wage Search for your target metro area so you know what prevailing wage the LCA must certify before your employer files.
Target employers already enrolled in E-Verify
STEM-adjacent roles and federal contractors must use E-Verify, and those employers already understand DOL compliance workflows. Focusing your search on E-Verify-enrolled companies reduces the time your hiring manager spends getting legal sign-off on sponsoring an H-1B1 Chile hire.
Search H-1B1 Chile sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Most job boards don't filter by H-1B1 Chile specifically. Migrate Mate surfaces frontend roles at employers with documented LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already committed to this visa category rather than educating recruiters from scratch.
Request the LCA receipt number before your DS-160
Your consular application requires a certified LCA, not just a filed one. DOL typically certifies within seven business days, but delays happen. Confirm your employer has the certified LCA receipt number in hand before you schedule your consulate appointment to avoid rescheduling fees.
Prepare a portfolio that documents specialty-occupation work
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires a bachelor's-level specialty. Bring a portfolio or work samples showing architectural decisions, not just UI output. Generic component libraries and template-based projects won't demonstrate the theoretical and practical application of knowledge USCIS expects.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Frontend Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes, frontend engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are harder to support. Your employer documents the degree requirement in the Labor Condition Application, so the job description language matters.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for a Frontend Engineer?
The H-1B1 Chile visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely, which means no random selection risk and no April registration window. The annual cap of 1,400 visas for Chilean nationals has never been exhausted. The trade-off is that H-1B visa1 doesn't allow dual intent, so it's better suited for frontend engineers focused on U.S. work rather than a simultaneous green card application.
How do I find Frontend Engineer employers who will sponsor an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Migrate Mate filters frontend engineering roles by employers with verified H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the visa category. Many recruiters conflate H-1B1 with the H-1B lottery, which wastes time. Starting with employers who've already filed LCAs for this status removes that friction from early conversations.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my frontend engineering contract or employment ends?
H-1B1 Chile status is employer-tied, so a job loss means you're out of status immediately without a formal grace period under H-1B1 rules. You'd need to depart the U.S. or secure a new offer quickly enough to apply for a new H-1B1 at the consulate. Having a job offer lined up before separation is the standard approach.
Can my Chilean spouse work in the U.S. while I'm on an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Your spouse can accompany you on H-4 dependent status but cannot work on that status alone. H-4 employment authorization is only available when the primary H-1B holder has an approved I-140 immigrant petition, which H-1B1 Chile holders don't typically have given the visa's non-immigrant intent requirement. Your spouse would need their own independent work authorization to be employed.
