Translate your credentials into U.S. management language
Chilean business degrees and titles don't always map cleanly to U.S. job classifications. Review the O*NET profile for Business Manager to align your CV terminology with the specialty occupation criteria consular officers expect to see.
Target employers already familiar with H-1B1 Chile
Many U.S. companies know the H-1B but haven't sponsored H-1B1 Chile before. Focus your outreach on multinationals with Chilean operations or HR teams that have processed FTA-based visas, since they're less likely to stall on the unfamiliar process.
Search for sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Business Manager roles at employers with documented H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history. Filtering by DOL Labor Condition Application data surfaces companies that have already cleared the wage certification step.
Confirm your role meets specialty occupation standards
The H-1B1 visa requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in a directly related field is the normal minimum. Generalist management titles sometimes get scrutinized, so work with your employer to document degree-specific duties before the LCA is filed.
Push your employer to file the LCA before negotiating start dates
The DOL must certify the Labor Condition Application before you can apply at the consulate. LCA certification through OFLC Wage Search typically takes seven business days, but errors or wage-level disputes can delay it, so your start date depends on that step clearing first.
Prepare for consular questions about managerial authority
H-1B1 Chile consular interviews for management roles often probe whether you'll actually supervise staff or hold decision-making authority. Bring an organizational chart and a detailed offer letter that specifies reporting lines, budget control, and the business unit you'll manage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
It can, but the title alone isn't enough. USCIS and consular officers look at whether the specific duties require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, such as business administration, management, or a relevant technical discipline. Generalist or operational management roles with broad, non-specialized duties are more likely to face scrutiny than roles tied to a defined professional field.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to H-1B for Business Manager roles?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery and a 1,400-visa annual cap that rarely fills, so Chilean nationals can apply at the consulate without waiting for a random selection. H-1B petitions go through USCIS and are subject to an oversubscribed lottery. The H-1B1 also doesn't allow dual intent, meaning it doesn't directly support a green card application the way H-1B status can.
How can I find Business Manager jobs with H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with documented H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never processed this visa type. Searching by role and filtering for H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history narrows your list to employers who already understand the process and are more likely to move quickly.
What documents does a Chilean Business Manager typically need for the consular interview?
You'll need a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL, a detailed offer letter specifying your management duties and authority, your university degree and transcripts, and evidence that the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. An organizational chart showing your position within the company and the staff you'll supervise is also commonly requested at the interview.
Can a Business Manager on H-1B1 Chile status change employers?
Yes, but you'll need to restart the process with the new employer rather than transfer the visa status the way H-1B portability works. The new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to return to the consulate for a new H-1B1 Chile stamp. There's no grace period built into a job change, so timing the transition carefully is essential.
