Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Developer
Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a directly related degree, not just any bachelor's. A computer science or software engineering degree supporting a Developer role is clean. A business degree supporting the same role will draw scrutiny from the consular officer.
Target employers already filing Labor Condition Applications
Your employer must file an LCA with DOL before you can apply. Search the OFLC Wage Search to find companies that have filed LCAs for Developer roles. These employers understand the process and won't need educating on their obligations.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified H-1B1 employers
Migrate Mate surfaces Developer job listings from employers with active H-1B1 sponsorship history, pulled from DOL LCA disclosure data. You skip cold outreach to companies that have never filed and focus only on roles with a real path to the consulate.
Get your offer letter to specify the LCA wage level
The consular officer checks that your offered salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage on the certified LCA. Ask your employer to include the wage level and SOC code in the offer letter so your documents are internally consistent before the interview.
Carry your Chilean passport with at least six months validity
Unlike USCIS petitions, H-1B1 adjudication happens at the consulate in a single appointment. Your passport must be valid for the full requested admission period. A passport expiring within the visa's initial two-year term will limit your authorized stay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1 Chile?
Yes. Software Developer, systems developer, and related engineering titles are classified at Job Zone 4 in O*NET, meaning they typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. You'll need to show your degree matches the technical scope of the specific role, not just that you hold a degree.
How is H-1B1 Chile different from H-1B for Developer jobs?
H-1B1 Chile has no lottery, no USCIS petition, and no I-129 filing. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you apply directly at the consulate with the certified LCA. The annual cap is 1,400 visas for Chile and has never been fully used, so timing pressure is minimal compared to H-1B.
Where can I find Developer jobs that offer H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters Developer listings by employers with verified H-1B1 and LCA filing history using DOL disclosure data, so you're not guessing which companies will support the process. Generic job boards don't filter by sponsorship type or LCA history.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my H-1B1 Chile application?
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL and receives a certified LCA. They then issue an offer letter that matches the LCA wage level and SOC code. You bring the certified LCA, the offer letter, your degree credentials, and your DS-160 confirmation to the consular interview. USCIS is not involved in this process.
Can I start a new Developer job in the U.S. while my H-1B1 Chile application is pending?
No. H-1B1 is a consular-processed visa, not a change-of-status petition. You apply in Chile and must receive the visa stamp before beginning work for the sponsoring employer. There is no cap-gap protection or employment authorization document available through this process while your application is pending.
