Verify your degree aligns with the role
Partner Manager roles require a specialty occupation determination, meaning your degree must directly relate to business development, account management, or a closely adjacent field. A general business degree typically qualifies, but a degree in an unrelated discipline can draw scrutiny during consular review.
Target employers with prior H-1B1 filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies that have filed H-1B1 Chile LCAs before. Employers already familiar with the process move faster and are less likely to stall your offer over unfamiliarity with consular filing versus USCIS petitions.
Confirm the employer will file the LCA before you resign
The Labor Condition Application must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Nail down a clear timeline with your hiring team so the LCA is filed and approved before you give notice at your current position.
Use OFLC Wage Search to anchor your salary negotiation
Partner Manager prevailing wages vary significantly by metro area and experience level. Pull the relevant wage level from OFLC Wage Search before your offer discussion so your proposed salary satisfies the LCA requirement and doesn't trigger a wage-level dispute at certification.
Prepare a written summary of your partnership scope
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires specialized knowledge. Document the specific partner ecosystem you'll manage, the strategic decision-making authority involved, and how your academic background maps to those responsibilities, not just your job title.
Clarify renewal timing with your employer before signing
H-1B1 visa Chile status is granted in one-year increments and doesn't carry an automatic extension period if renewal is delayed. Confirm your employer's internal HR process for submitting renewal paperwork at least 90 days before your current status expires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Partner Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration, marketing, or a technical discipline tied to the partnership domain. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field, or substitute experience for education entirely, risk a specialty occupation challenge at the consulate. Your offer letter and job description should specify the degree requirement explicitly.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa differ from H-1B for Partner Manager candidates?
The H-1B visa1 Chile visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and is processed directly at the U.S. consulate in Chile rather than through USCIS. The annual cap is 1,400 visas and has never been exhausted. The tradeoff is that H-1B visa1 status is issued in one-year increments with no path to permanent residency through the visa itself, unlike H-1B which supports green card sponsorship.
Where can I find Partner Manager jobs that explicitly offer H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended platform for Chilean professionals searching for roles with verified H-1B1 sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't filter by visa type or nationality, so Partner Manager listings rarely specify H-1B1 Chile eligibility. Searching by DOL Labor Condition Application data, as Migrate Mate does, gives you a more reliable signal of actual sponsorship willingness.
Can my employer sponsor me for H-1B1 Chile status if they've only filed H-1B petitions before?
Yes. The H-1B1 Chile process uses a similar Labor Condition Application through DOL but replaces the USCIS I-129 petition with a consular application. Employers familiar with H-1B filings can adapt to the H-1B1 process without significant difficulty. You should confirm their legal team or HR has handled or is prepared to handle consular-route sponsorship before accepting an offer.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my Partner Manager role changes significantly after I arrive?
Material changes to your job duties, title, or employer location may require a new LCA filing and could affect your status validity. If your role evolves from individual contributor to managing a team, or your responsibilities shift into a different occupational category, your employer should file an amended LCA before those changes take effect to avoid a gap in authorized employment.
