Align your credentials with SOC codes
Technical Program Manager roles map to multiple SOC codes depending on scope. Pull your target occupation's profile from O*NET before applying so your resume and LCA documentation reflect the exact specialty occupation language consular officers expect.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating offers
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and role level. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before accepting an offer so you can flag underpayment risks before the filing stage.
Search H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history on Migrate Mate
Most job boards don't filter for H-1B1 Chile sponsorship specifically. Migrate Mate lets you search by LCA filing history so you can target employers who have already sponsored Chilean nationals in program management roles.
Confirm your employer understands the consular route
Many U.S. employers default to H-1B processes and don't know the H-1B1 visa Chile visa skips USCIS entirely. Clarify early that the LCA is filed with DOL and the visa is issued at the consulate, not through a USCIS petition approval.
Document cross-functional program scope thoroughly
Consular officers evaluate specialty occupation standing on a case-by-case basis for TPM roles. Provide evidence that your position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related technical field, not general management experience.
Prepare for the two-year renewal cycle strategically
H-1B1 Chile status is granted in two-year increments with no hard limit on renewals, but each renewal requires a new LCA certification. Coordinate with your employer's HR team at least 90 days before your I-94 expiration to avoid gaps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Program Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field such as computer science, engineering, or information systems. Roles where any degree suffices regardless of field don't meet the specialty occupation standard. Your employer documents the requirement in the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before your consulate appointment.
How is the H-1B1 Chile visa different from H-1B for a Technical Program Manager?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has no lottery and no USCIS petition requirement, so you apply directly at the consulate after your employer certifies the LCA with DOL. The trade-off is that H-1B1 Chile does not allow dual intent, meaning you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while holding this status, whereas H-1B does permit dual intent.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring H-1B1 Chile visas for Technical Program Manager roles?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by LCA filing history, so you can identify companies that have already filed for H-1B1 Chile sponsorship in program management and adjacent roles. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the Chile-specific visa pathway and reduces the time spent educating recruiters from scratch.
Can I switch employers on an H-1B1 Chile visa if I receive a better Technical Program Manager offer?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new H-1B1 Chile visa stamp if you travel outside the U.S. before the new role starts. Unlike H-1B portability, there's no mechanism to begin work at the new employer while a petition is pending, so plan the transition timeline carefully with both parties.
What documents should a Chilean TPM candidate prepare before approaching potential sponsors?
Have your academic transcripts and degree certificates evaluated by a credential evaluation service if your degree is from a Chilean institution. Prepare a concise summary of your program management scope that ties technical leadership directly to your degree field. Employers need this to complete the specialty occupation justification in the LCA before filing with DOL.
