Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Transportation Project Manager
Translate your credentials into U.S. equivalents
Chilean engineering or project management degrees must map to U.S. specialty occupation standards. Get your credentials evaluated by a NACES-recognized agency before applying, so employers can confirm your degree satisfies the H-1B1 visa bachelor's requirement without delay.
Target infrastructure-heavy employers filing LCAs
Focus on firms actively bidding on federally funded transportation projects. DOL Labor Condition Applications are public record, and employers filing LCAs for Project Manager roles have already committed to the prevailing wage process required for H-1B1 sponsorship.
Search for H-1B1 Chile sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Filter specifically for employers with H-1B1 Chile visa filing history in transportation and infrastructure. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by occupation code, so you can see which companies have sponsored roles matching your project management background.
Verify your prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Transportation Project Managers in your target metro area. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that threshold, so knowing the DOL wage level before salary discussions protects your H-1B1 eligibility.
Confirm the employer files the LCA before your consulate date
Unlike H-1B, the H-1B1 petition is filed at the U.S. consulate, not through USCIS. Your employer still needs a certified LCA from DOL before your interview. Confirm LCA certification is complete and in hand before you schedule your Santiago or Bogota consulate appointment.
Bring project documentation proving specialty occupation
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Bring a detailed job offer letter naming your specific infrastructure projects, the engineering or technical decisions you'll own, and the bachelor's-level qualifications the role demands beyond general management experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Transportation Project Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, urban planning, or a closely related field. Roles that accept any degree or rely primarily on general management experience may not qualify. The O*NET occupation profile for Transportation Managers lists a typical entry requirement of a bachelor's degree, which supports specialty occupation classification when your job duties match.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa differ from H-1B for transportation professionals?
The H-1B1 Chile visa has a dedicated annual cap of 1,400 visas exclusively for Chilean nationals, and that cap has never filled. There's no lottery, no USCIS petition, and no premium processing fee. You apply directly at a U.S. consulate after your employer files a certified LCA with DOL. H-1B requires a lottery entry in March with a selection rate under 30%, making H-1B1 a significantly more predictable path for Chilean transportation professionals.
How do I find employers sponsoring H-1B1 Chile visas for project management roles?
Search Migrate Mate to find employers with documented H-1B1 Chile filing history in transportation and infrastructure. DOL Labor Condition Application records are public, and Migrate Mate filters them by occupation code so you can identify companies that have sponsored Transportation Project Manager roles rather than guessing at employer willingness based on company size or reputation.
Can I start working in the U.S. before my H-1B1 Chile visa is approved?
No. The H-1B1 Chile visa is a consular-processed nonimmigrant visa, so you need the visa stamp in your passport before entering the U.S. to begin employment. Your employer can finalize the LCA and prepare all documentation in parallel with your job search, but you must receive consulate approval before your first day of work.
What happens to my H-1B1 Chile status if my transportation project ends early?
Your H-1B1 status is tied to the employer named in the LCA, not the specific project. If your project ends but your employment continues with the same employer in an equivalent role, your status remains valid. If the employer terminates your position, you have a short grace period to find a new sponsor, transfer to another visa status, or depart. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA before you begin work with them.
