Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Project Manager
Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires your PM role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. A degree in engineering, business, or information systems strengthens the case more than a general management credential.
Use O*NET to frame your job duties accurately
Pull the O*NET profile for Project Manager to identify the exact knowledge areas and tasks USCIS and DOL expect. Your offer letter and employer's LCA filing should reflect this language, not a generic internal job description.
Target employers already filing LCAs for management roles
Search Migrate Mate to find employers with verified H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history in project management. Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for PM-adjacent roles are already familiar with the wage and filing requirements.
Confirm your offered salary meets the prevailing wage before accepting
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your specific SOC code and work location before you sign an offer. If the salary falls below the DOL prevailing wage level, the LCA won't certify and the visa process stalls.
Ask your employer about LCA timing during negotiations
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Raise this timeline with your hiring manager early so the filing doesn't get delayed by internal legal or HR approval queues.
Prepare for consular intent questions specific to PM contract work
Consular officers sometimes ask whether PM roles involve third-party client sites, which can raise questions about who the true employer is. Bring documentation showing a direct employment relationship and a defined project scope.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Manager role qualify for H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as engineering, computer science, business administration, or information systems. Roles where any unrelated degree would suffice typically don't meet the specialty occupation standard. Your employer's LCA filing will need to document why the specific degree field is a requirement, not a preference.
How does H-1B1 Chile compare to H-1B for Project Manager jobs?
H-1B1 Chile has no lottery, a 1,400-visa annual cap that has never been reached, and is processed at the consulate rather than through USCIS petitions. H-1B requires surviving a random lottery and a multi-month USCIS adjudication. For a Chilean national with a PM job offer, H-1B1 Chile is generally faster and more predictable than the H-1B route.
How do I find employers who will sponsor an H-1B1 Chile visa for a PM role?
Use Migrate Mate to search for employers with documented H-1B1 Chile filing history in project management and related occupations. Filtering by DOL Labor Condition Application data shows which companies have actively sponsored this visa category, saving you from approaching employers unfamiliar with the process.
Can I switch employers or projects while on H-1B1 Chile status?
Changing employers requires a new LCA and a new consulate application tied to the new position. Unlike H-1B portability rules, H-1B1 Chile doesn't allow you to start with a new employer simply on a receipt notice. Make sure your new employer's filing is complete before you transition to avoid a gap in authorized status.
What documentation should I bring to the consulate as a PM applicant?
Bring your certified LCA, the employer's support letter describing the project management role and its degree requirements, your academic transcripts and degree certificates, and evidence of your qualifications such as PMP certification or prior PM employment records. If your degree is from a Chilean university, a credential evaluation showing U.S. equivalency strengthens your application.
