Verify your architecture license transfers
Singaporean architects licensed by the Board of Architects Singapore will need U.S. state licensure or documented progress toward it. Check whether your target employer requires a licensed architect or accepts candidates still completing the NCARB path, as this affects your offer terms.
Search DOL filings before targeting firms
Use Migrate Mate to filter architecture employers by verified H-1B1 visa LCA filing history, so you're pursuing firms that have already navigated the sponsorship process rather than ones encountering it for the first time.
Document your specialty occupation evidence early
Your role must require at least a bachelor's degree in architecture or a directly related field. Pull your O*NET occupation profile for the Architects classification and keep it with your credentials portfolio, since employers reference it when preparing the LCA.
Confirm the employer files an LCA before signing
Unlike H-1B visa, H-1B1 visa skips the USCIS petition stage, but the employer still files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying your wage meets the prevailing wage. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the prevailing wage for your target metro before negotiating your offer.
Target firms enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment isn't universally required for H-1B1 visa employers, but it signals the firm has existing immigration compliance infrastructure. Architecture firms that already sponsor foreign nationals typically have HR processes that make your onboarding faster and less error-prone.
Plan your consulate appointment around project timelines
H-1B1 Singapore is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore with no USCIS adjudication step, but consulate wait times fluctuate. Build at least eight weeks of buffer between your intended start date and your appointment, especially if your firm has a hard project mobilization deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Architect role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes. Architecture is a textbook specialty occupation because the role normally requires at least a professional bachelor's degree in architecture or a closely related field. USCIS recognizes this classification, and DOL confirms it through the LCA certification process. Your employer documents the degree requirement in the LCA, and the consular officer verifies it at your visa interview.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for Architect roles?
The H-1B1 visa skips the annual lottery and the USCIS petition stage entirely, so your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL and you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. H-1B requires a lottery selection first, then a USCIS adjudication period that can add months. For architects with a firm offer, H-1B1 is a significantly faster path.
How do I find architecture firms that have sponsored H-1B1 Singapore visas before?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can identify architecture employers who have already gone through the H-1B1 visa process. Firms with prior filings typically have immigration counsel in place and understand the LCA requirements, which reduces the risk of delays during your offer stage.
Can I work at multiple architecture firms or take on freelance projects on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
No. The H-1B1 visa ties your authorization to the specific employer named in the LCA. Taking on freelance architecture work or a concurrent second employer would require a separate LCA and visa authorization. If you change firms, your new employer must file a fresh LCA before your start date, and you'll need to return to the consulate for a new visa stamp.
Does U.S. state architecture licensure affect my H-1B1 eligibility?
Not directly. The H-1B1 visa specialty occupation standard requires a qualifying degree, not a U.S. state license. However, some project types and employer roles require a licensed architect under state law, so your offer letter and job duties determine whether licensure is a practical requirement. Confirm with your employer what credential level the specific position demands before applying.
