Map your degree to SOC codes
Category Manager roles file under SOC 11-3061 (Purchasing Managers) or 13-1023 (Purchasing Agents). Pull the O*NET profile for your target code to confirm the degree-field match before applying, since a misaligned credential triggers employer hesitation early.
Verify your prevailing wage tier first
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level I through Level IV wages for your target metro area before negotiating. Your offered salary must meet the certified wage on the Labor Condition Application, so knowing the floor prevents offer-stage surprises.
Find sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Search Category Manager roles on Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified H-1B1 Singapore LCA filing history. That history signals the hiring team already understands the consulate-based process and won't stall at the offer stage.
Target procurement teams at import-heavy companies
Retailers, consumer goods firms, and manufacturers with complex global supply chains file the most Category Manager LCAs. These employers already run multi-vendor sourcing workflows where your Singapore-market experience in APAC supplier relationships is a concrete differentiator.
Ask employers about their LCA timeline upfront
The Labor Condition Application must be DOL-certified before your consulate appointment can proceed. Ask during final interviews whether the employer works with immigration counsel who can file the LCA quickly, since delays there push back your Singapore consulate slot.
Prepare a specialty occupation evidence file early
Gather your degree certificate, transcript, and a role description that explicitly states a bachelor's degree in a specific field is required. Consular officers assess specialty occupation at the appointment, and a clear document trail resolves that question before it's asked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Category Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation under the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the employer's job description requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as supply chain management, business administration, or a related discipline. Generic purchasing roles that accept any degree regardless of field can face scrutiny, so your offer letter and the Labor Condition Application need to specify the degree requirement clearly.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for Category Manager roles?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa has no lottery and an annual cap of 5,400 that has never come close to filling, so you can apply any time of year. H-1B visa requires employer-sponsored lottery registration each March and a USCIS petition before any consulate step. For Category Manager roles, H-1B visa1 Singapore means a faster, more predictable path if you're a Singaporean national with a qualifying job offer.
Which employers actively sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for Category Manager positions?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified Labor Condition Application filing history for Category Manager and related procurement roles, so you can prioritize companies that have already navigated the H-1B1 Singapore process. Import-heavy retailers, consumer goods companies, and firms with APAC supply chains tend to file most frequently for these roles.
What documents should a Singaporean Category Manager prepare before a consulate appointment?
You'll need your valid Singapore passport, DS-160 confirmation, visa fee payment receipt, the certified Labor Condition Application from your employer, an offer letter specifying your title and salary, and your degree certificate with transcript. If your degree field doesn't exactly match the role title, a brief credential evaluation or employer letter explaining the connection strengthens your application.
Can a Category Manager on H-1B1 Singapore change employers without restarting the visa process?
Changing employers requires your new employer to file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and you'll need a new H-1B1 Singapore visa stamp if you travel outside the U.S. Unlike H-1B portability under AC21, H-1B1 Singapore doesn't carry over to a new sponsor, so plan the timing of any job change around your current visa validity and any upcoming international travel.
