H-1B1 Singapore Visa Legal Counsel Jobs
Legal Counsel jobs in the U.S. are open to Singaporean nationals through the H-1B1 Singapore visa, which requires no lottery and processes directly at the consulate. Employers filing an LCA for attorney or compliance roles must offer H-1B1 sponsorship before your consulate appointment, making early employer confirmation critical.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Legal Counsel Jobs
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
Legal Counsel roles require a Juris Doctor or equivalent qualifying law degree. If your Singapore law degree doesn't include a U.S. LLM, confirm with your prospective employer that their LCA will document how your qualification maps to the role's legal requirements.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up certified LCAs under SOC code 23-1011 for lawyers. This shows which firms have already filed for foreign legal professionals, narrowing your target list to employers with demonstrated H-1B1 visa experience.
Prioritize firms with in-house immigration counsel
Law firms and corporate legal departments with dedicated immigration attorneys process H-1B1 LCAs faster and with fewer errors. Ask during screening calls whether the company handles sponsorship internally or outsources it, since outsourced filing sometimes slows the LCA certification timeline.
Find verified H-1B1 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by Legal Counsel roles on Migrate Mate to see employers whose DOL Labor Condition Application history confirms active H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship, so you apply only to firms that have already demonstrated they'll file for your visa category.
Confirm bar admission requirements before the offer stage
Many U.S. legal roles require state bar admission, which Singaporean attorneys typically don't hold. Clarify in early interviews whether the role accepts foreign-qualified counsel or requires you to sit a state bar exam before or after your start date.
Request LCA certification before signing your offer letter
Unlike H-1B visa, your H-1B1 consulate appointment depends on a certified LCA, not a USCIS petition. Ask your employer to complete DOL filing and receive LCA certification before you finalize your start date, since consulate appointments can only be scheduled after certification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the H-1B1 Singapore visa work for in-house Legal Counsel roles, not just law firms?
Yes. Corporate legal departments at technology companies, financial institutions, and multinational corporations regularly sponsor H-1B1 visas for in-house counsel positions. The key requirement is that the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a law degree, which in-house Legal Counsel positions generally satisfy. Your employer still files an LCA with the DOL regardless of whether it's a law firm or a corporate legal team.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for Legal Counsel applicants?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa has no lottery and an annual cap of 5,400 visas that rarely fills, so Singaporean legal professionals can apply any time of year without competing in a random selection. H-1B requires USCIS to approve a petition before any consulate step, while H-1B1 skips USCIS entirely. You schedule your consulate interview once your employer's LCA is DOL-certified, making the timeline more predictable.
How do I find Legal Counsel employers in the U.S. who will sponsor the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Migrate Mate lets you search Legal Counsel roles filtered specifically for employers with H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship history based on DOL Labor Condition Application data. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to firms that haven't sponsored the visa before, and focuses your search on companies that have already navigated the LCA filing process for Singaporean professionals.
Can I switch Legal Counsel employers on H-1B1 status without leaving the U.S.?
The H-1B1 visa does not carry H-1B portability protections, so changing employers requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA with the DOL and obtain certification before you begin work. You can remain in the U.S. during this process, but you cannot start the new Legal Counsel role until the new LCA is certified and your status is updated to reflect the new employer.
What happens if my Legal Counsel role evolves into a different position after I arrive?
If your duties materially change, your employer needs to file an amended LCA reflecting the updated job title, responsibilities, and prevailing wage. A Legal Counsel role that shifts toward a compliance director function, for example, may require a new LCA because the SOC code and wage level could change. Confirm with your employer's immigration team that any significant title change triggers an LCA review before your responsibilities formally shift.
