Match your credentials to O*NET standards
Buyer roles under H-2B visa are classified by DOL using O*NET occupation codes. Pull the official O*NET profile for your target job title and confirm your resume reflects the listed tasks and required skills before you apply.
Target employers with prior H-2B certifications
Use Migrate Mate to filter Buyer openings by employers who have received DOL labor certifications before. Repeat filers already understand the process and are far less likely to abandon sponsorship mid-hire because of paperwork complexity.
Time your applications around the cap deadlines
The 66,000-cap splits into two halves: 33,000 for October through March and 33,000 for April through September. Employers must file their I-129 petition with USCIS after DOL certifies the labor need, so reach out to hiring managers at least four months before a season starts.
Confirm the job qualifies as temporary not permanent
H-2B sponsorship is only valid for genuinely seasonal or peak-load need. Ask prospective employers directly whether the Buyer role is tied to a defined season or project, since DOL will deny certification for positions the employer fills year-round.
Verify the employer's E-Verify enrollment status
Some states require H-2B employers to participate in E-Verify, and many compliant employers enroll voluntarily. Confirming enrollment before you accept an offer signals the employer runs a documented, legally sound hiring process for foreign workers.
Check the prevailing wage using OFLC Wage Search
DOL requires your employer to pay the prevailing wage for Buyer roles in the specific work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before negotiations so you know the certified minimum and can flag any offer that falls short.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Buyer jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Buyer openings tied to employers who have filed DOL labor certifications for temporary workers, so you're not guessing which companies will actually go through the H-2B process. Filter by role, location, and season to find positions where sponsorship is already part of the employer's hiring plan.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect my chances of getting a Buyer role?
Yes, directly. The H-2B program issues a maximum of 66,000 visas each fiscal year, split evenly between the two semi-annual periods. Employers must file before those slots fill, and in high-demand seasons the cap is hit quickly. Targeting employers who file early in the certification window gives you the best chance of landing a position before numbers run out.
What makes a Buyer role eligible for H-2B certification?
DOL certifies H-2B positions only when the employer can prove the need is temporary, no qualified U.S. workers are available, and hiring a foreign worker won't undercut American wages. For Buyer roles, the employer must tie the position to a seasonal peak or a one-time event, document their recruitment effort, and pay the prevailing wage set for that occupation and location.
Can I switch H-2B employers if I find a different Buyer job mid-season?
Switching employers on an H-2B visa requires the new employer to file a fresh I-129 petition with USCIS and obtain their own DOL labor certification. You cannot simply transfer the existing authorization. Starting a new employer relationship mid-season is difficult because certification and petition processing takes months, often longer than the remaining authorized period.
