H-2B Visa Carpenter Jobs
Carpenter jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship are available through U.S. employers in construction, resort development, and seasonal infrastructure projects. Employers must file a temporary labor certification with the DOL before sponsoring you, and the 66,000-visa annual cap means timing your application to the correct season matters as much as your credentials.

OUR CORE VALUES
We’ve Got Each Other’s Backs
First and foremost, we are a team. That means when someone is having a hard time, we step up and help each other out, whether it’s part of our day-to-day job or not. We’ve got each other’s backs. No questions asked.
Own Up
No one is perfect. We get that. If you make a mistake, own up to it, help to fix it, learn from it and move on.
It's Not Always Sunny
Ag construction is a vital part of our rural economy, but it’s hard work. Whether it’s 75 and sunny, or 15 and snowy, we work in the elements, day in and day out. Because of that, positive attitudes are a must. We’re all in this together in every situation to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
No Jerks Allowed
It doesn’t matter if we’re talking to a customer or a colleague, treating each other with respect, having a good attitude and taking responsibility for our work is of the utmost importance. Whatever job we’re on, we give 100% at all times, doing everything to the very best of our ability. We take pride in what we do and how we treat one another is no exception.

Document your carpentry credentials before applying
Gather proof of your trade qualifications, apprenticeship certificates, and prior employer references before contacting U.S. employers. H-2B visa officers evaluate whether your skills match the certified job description, so vague credentials slow the process.
Target employers with DOL certification history
Search Migrate Mate to find construction and hospitality employers who have filed H-2B labor certifications for carpenter roles. These employers already understand the sponsorship process and are far more likely to move forward quickly.
Understand the prevailing wage for your work location
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the DOL prevailing wage for carpenters in the specific county where you'll work. Your offer letter must meet or exceed that wage or the labor certification will be denied.
Apply during the correct H-2B cap period
The 66,000 annual cap splits evenly between October and April start dates. If your carpentry project runs April through September, your employer must file in the winter allocation window or risk being shut out entirely.
Confirm your employer files the ETA-9142B correctly
The DOL requires employers to submit Form ETA-9142B with a valid job order and recruitment documentation before sponsoring you. Ask your prospective employer to confirm they've worked with a DOL-registered agent who handles H-2B temporary labor certifications.
Review your O*NET occupation profile before interviews
The O*NET profile for carpenters outlines the specific tasks, tools, and skills employers reference in their DOL job descriptions. Matching your experience to that profile helps you articulate your qualifications precisely during employer screening.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find carpenter jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search for carpenter positions where the employer is already set up to sponsor H-2B workers. Because the sponsorship process requires employers to obtain DOL labor certification before hiring, you need to target companies that have done this before, not simply any employer advertising carpentry work.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I can start a carpenter job?
Yes, directly. The 66,000 annual cap is split into two halves: 33,000 for workers starting between October 1 and March 31, and 33,000 for April 1 through September 30. Your employer must file within the correct allocation window for your project start date. USCIS uses a lottery when petitions exceed the cap in a given period, so late or misaligned filings can leave you without a visa number even if your employer's certification was approved.
What qualifications does a carpenter need to qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
The H-2B category doesn't require a degree, but your employer must demonstrate in their DOL labor certification that the job requires specific carpentry skills and that no qualified U.S. workers are available. Trade certificates, apprenticeship records, or documented work history all help establish your qualifications. The DOL evaluates whether your background matches the duties listed in the certified job description, so generic resumes that don't reflect hands-on carpentry experience create problems during USCIS adjudication.
Can a carpenter change employers after arriving on an H-2B visa?
Only if the new employer files a separate H-2B petition and receives USCIS approval before you begin working for them. H-2B status is employer-specific and tied to the certified job order. Working for an unapproved employer, even temporarily on a carpentry project, violates your status. The new employer must also have an active DOL temporary labor certification for the same or substantially similar carpenter role.
