Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Concrete Finisher Jobs
Document your concrete trade credentials early
Gather proof of hands-on experience with screeding, troweling, and finishing techniques before approaching employers. H-2B visa petitions require your employer to demonstrate you fill a genuine temporary need, and your documented skills support that case.
Target employers filing in the summer cap period
The 33,000 summer-cap H-2B visas open October 1 for employment starting April 1 or later. Construction concrete work peaks in warmer months, so focus your search on employers whose project timelines align with the summer allocation.
Search for H-2B concrete jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings to show employers with active H-2B sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which concrete companies actually file. Use it to find verified seasonal construction roles before the cap fills.
Verify the prevailing wage for your work location
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for Concrete Finisher roles in the specific county where you'll work. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the wage level before accepting any offer, since underpaying invalidates the petition.
Confirm the employer has submitted the DOL job order
Before the DOL certifies a temporary labor certification, employers must post a job order through their State Workforce Agency. Ask your prospective employer for the job order confirmation number, which signals they've started the mandatory recruitment process.
Understand the O*NET occupation code for your role
H-2B petitions reference the Standard Occupational Classification code for Concrete Finishers. Check your O*NET profile to confirm your specific duties match the classified tasks, since a mismatch between petition duties and your actual role can trigger a USCIS request for evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Concrete Finisher jobs with H-2B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces construction employers with verified H-2B filing history so you can identify companies that have sponsored seasonal workers before, rather than cold-applying to employers who may not understand the process. Filter by location and job title to find active Concrete Finisher roles with sponsorship.
How does the H-2B visa cap affect my chances as a Concrete Finisher?
USCIS issues no more than 66,000 H-2B visas per fiscal year, split into two 33,000-visa allotments for winter and summer. Construction concrete work typically falls under the summer cap, which opens October 1 for start dates of April 1 or later. Employers must file early because the cap can fill within days of opening, leaving workers without a visa slot regardless of how qualified they are.
What documents should I prepare before a concrete employer files my H-2B petition?
You'll need a valid passport, proof of your concrete finishing experience such as prior employment records or references from past jobsites, and any trade certifications you hold. Your employer's attorney or filing contact may also request a signed job offer letter and a copy of your travel history. Having these ready before the DOL certification window closes prevents delays when timelines are tight.
Can I extend my H-2B status if the construction project runs longer than expected?
Yes, USCIS allows H-2B extensions in one-year increments, up to a maximum of three consecutive years of H-2B status. Your employer must file an extension petition before your current period expires and demonstrate the continued temporary need. After reaching the three-year limit, you must leave the U.S. for at least three uninterrupted months before a new H-2B petition can be filed on your behalf.
