Verify your supervisory experience documents early
H-2B visa petitions for superintendent roles require proof that you've directed crews, managed subcontractors, and held site-level authority. Gather employment letters specifying your title, number of workers supervised, and project scope before you approach any employer.
Target employers with recurring seasonal construction cycles
Ski resort expansions, coastal hospitality builds, and municipal park infrastructure operate on fixed seasonal schedules. These employers file H-2B petitions annually and already understand the DOL temporary need certification process for superintendent-level hires.
Search H-2B Construction Superintendent roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, so you can find Construction Superintendent openings where the employer has already committed to H-2B filing. That saves you from approaching companies unfamiliar with the process.
Confirm the employer files in the correct cap period
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap is split into two 33,000-slot allotments for October and April start dates. A summer construction season job requires an April-period filing. Verify your start date aligns with the employer's intended petition window before accepting an offer.
Check the prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay the DOL-certified prevailing wage for Construction Superintendent in your specific work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the applicable wage level by county, then confirm your offer meets or exceeds that figure.
Understand that the I-129 petition is employer-filed, not self-filed
You can't file an H-2B petition on your own behalf. Your employer submits Form I-129 to USCIS after DOL certifies the temporary labor need. Follow up with your employer on the USCIS receipt notice and expected consular appointment timeline once the petition is approved.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Construction Superintendent jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Construction Superintendent positions filtered specifically for H-2B visa sponsorship, so every listing you see represents an employer who has committed to sponsoring the visa. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-approaching companies unfamiliar with the H-2B temporary labor certification process.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I can start a Construction Superintendent role?
Yes. USCIS allocates 66,000 H-2B visas per fiscal year, split into two 33,000-slot allotments for the first and second halves of the year. Construction projects with summer start dates compete for the April-period allotment, which often exhausts quickly. Your employer must file early and may request returning worker exemptions if applicable, so confirming their filing timeline upfront is essential.
What qualifications do employers typically require for H-2B Construction Superintendent sponsorship?
Most H-2B petitions for superintendent roles require documented evidence of crew supervision, subcontractor coordination, and site safety oversight. Employers must demonstrate to DOL that the position is temporary and that no qualified U.S. workers are available. Your work history should clearly show you've held decision-making authority on active job sites, not just performed labor alongside a crew.
Can I change construction employers once I'm in the U.S. on an H-2B visa?
H-2B status is employer-specific. If your original employer's project ends early or you want to move to a different construction company, the new employer must file a fresh I-129 petition with USCIS and obtain separate DOL temporary labor certification. You can't simply transfer your H-2B status the way some other work visas allow, so coordinate any employer changes carefully to avoid a gap in authorized status.
