Verify your credentials match the role
H-2B visa Project Superintendents are expected to demonstrate direct supervisory experience on construction or infrastructure crews. Gather employment letters, project records, and any trade certifications before approaching employers, gaps in documented site authority will slow your petition.
Target employers with recurring H-2B history
Construction and resort-development firms that run multi-season projects are far more likely to re-file H-2B petitions than one-time employers. Look for companies that have filed labor certifications in consecutive years, which signals an established DOL relationship and faster internal processing.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Finding a Project Superintendent role with confirmed H-2B sponsorship history cuts your search time significantly. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active DOL labor certification filings, so you're targeting companies already set up to sponsor rather than cold-applying and hoping.
Understand the cap split before your start date
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap is divided into two 33,000-slot halves: October through March and April through September. If your project start date straddles a cap period, confirm with your employer which half covers your petition to avoid a filing gap that delays your arrival.
Ask employers about prevailing wage before accepting offers
DOL requires H-2B employers to pay the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the rate for Project Superintendent in the employer's county before accepting an offer, so you can verify the posted wage meets the legal floor.
Confirm the employer files the I-129 after certification
Once DOL certifies the temporary labor certification, your employer must file Form I-129 with USCIS to actually petition for your H-2B status. Some employers stall at this stage. Before you commit, get written confirmation of their full filing timeline, including which attorney or representative handles USCIS submissions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Project Superintendent jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Project Superintendent roles where the employer has a confirmed H-2B sponsorship history. Because H-2B sponsorship requires the employer to complete a DOL labor certification before you can be sponsored, you need to target companies already familiar with that process rather than employers encountering it for the first time.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect Project Superintendent hiring timelines?
The H-2B program issues 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split into two halves of 33,000 each covering the winter and summer seasons. Employers must file early because cap slots can be exhausted quickly, particularly for summer-season projects. If your project start date falls in a high-demand period, your employer's petition needs to be in well before the cap closes or you risk waiting for the next allocation period.
What qualifications do H-2B employers typically require for a Project Superintendent?
H-2B employers filing for a Project Superintendent must demonstrate to DOL that the position requires specialized experience that U.S. workers cannot fill on a temporary basis. In practice, employers look for documented supervisory experience managing field crews, familiarity with site safety compliance, and a track record on similar project types. Trade certifications and verifiable employment records strengthen your petition significantly.
Can a Project Superintendent on H-2B change employers mid-season?
Changing employers while on H-2B status is complicated. Your visa is tied to the specific employer named in the DOL labor certification and the I-129 petition filed with USCIS. If you want to work for a different employer, that employer would need to obtain a separate labor certification and file a new petition on your behalf, which typically cannot happen mid-cap period without significant delay.
