H-2B Visa HVAC Jobs
HVAC jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship are available through U.S. employers who hire seasonal heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians for peak installation and maintenance periods. Employers must secure DOL labor certification before filing with USCIS, and the 66,000-visa annual cap means timing your application is critical.

Document your HVAC credentials before applying
Gather any relevant certifications, such as EPA 608 for refrigerant handling, before approaching employers. H-2B visa petitions don't require formal credentialing, but documented technical training strengthens your case and reduces delays during employer vetting.
Target employers in peak-season HVAC markets
Focus your search on contractors in Sun Belt states and ski resort regions, where HVAC demand spikes seasonally. Employers in these markets file H-2B petitions repeatedly and are more familiar with the sponsorship process than general construction firms.
Search for verified H-2B HVAC employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-2B sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which contractors have filed before. Use it to identify employers with active HVAC roles before the cap-filing window opens.
Confirm your employer's DOL start date timing
Your employer must file the temporary labor certification with DOL no more than 75 calendar days before your start date. An employer who misses this window can't file in time, so verify their planned petition timeline before accepting any offer.
Understand which cap half your start date falls under
The 66,000 H-2B annual cap splits equally between October 1 and April 1 start dates. HVAC work starting in summer cooling season falls under the April 1 half, which fills faster. Ask your employer which allocation they're filing under.
Check the prevailing wage for your HVAC role and location
Your employer must pay the DOL-certified prevailing wage for HVAC work in your specific county. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up what that rate is before signing an offer, so you can confirm the employer's wage meets the legal requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find HVAC jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find HVAC employers with verified H-2B sponsorship history. Because H-2B sponsorship requires employers to complete DOL labor certification before hiring, not every contractor advertises it openly. Searching through Migrate Mate filters for employers who have filed H-2B petitions for HVAC roles, saving you from applying to companies that don't sponsor.
How does the H-2B cap affect my chances of getting an HVAC job in the U.S.?
USCIS limits H-2B visas to 66,000 per fiscal year, split into two halves of 33,000 each for winter and summer start dates. HVAC roles tied to summer cooling season compete in the April 1 cap half, which historically fills within days of opening. Your employer must file promptly at the start of the filing window, making their preparation timeline as important as your qualifications.
Do I need EPA 608 certification to qualify for an H-2B HVAC visa?
EPA 608 certification is not a federal requirement for H-2B eligibility, but many HVAC employers require it for technicians who handle refrigerants. If your role involves air conditioning systems, confirm with your prospective employer whether they require certification before filing, since the job description submitted to DOL must match the work you'll actually perform.
Can I extend my H-2B status if my HVAC employer needs me beyond the initial period?
Yes, H-2B status can be extended in one-year increments up to a total of three consecutive years, provided your employer demonstrates continued temporary need and USCIS approves the extension petition. After three years, you must leave the U.S. for an uninterrupted three-month period before becoming eligible for a new H-2B period of admission.
