H-2B Visa Estimator Jobs
Estimator jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship appear most often in construction and infrastructure, where project cycles create predictable seasonal workforce gaps. Employers must secure DOL temporary labor certification before sponsoring you, and the 66,000-visa annual cap fills quickly, so understanding the filing calendar is as important as finding the right role.

Document your estimating credentials before applying
Gather certificates, software proficiency records, and employment references that confirm your cost-estimation background. H-2B visa petitions require employers to justify why a temporary foreign worker fills the role, and your credentials strengthen that case.
Look up prevailing wages using OFLC Wage Search
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for Estimator roles in their county. Check OFLC Wage Search yourself before negotiations so you know the minimum the employer is legally required to offer on your certified LCA.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate shows which construction and seasonal employers have active H-2B filing history by occupation and location, letting you target companies already set up to sponsor Estimator positions rather than cold-approaching firms unfamiliar with the process.
Apply during the first cap-filing window in January
The H-2B summer cap typically opens in early January for start dates after April 1. Employers filing on the first day of the window have the best chance before the 33,000-slot summer allocation is exhausted, often within days.
Confirm your employer has filed the I-129 before resigning
USCIS processes the I-129 petition only after the DOL certifies the temporary labor certification. Ask your prospective employer for the certified ETA-9142B and the I-129 receipt notice before giving notice at your current job.
Use O*NET to match your duties to the SOC code
H-2B certifications tie to a specific Standard Occupational Classification code. Review the O*NET profile for Estimators to confirm your actual daily duties align with the listed tasks, reducing the risk of an OFLC audit or denial on occupation mismatch grounds.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Estimator jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for Estimator positions at employers with verified H-2B filing history, so you're not guessing which companies are set up to sponsor. Because H-2B requires employers to complete DOL temporary labor certification and file an I-129 before you can start, targeting companies already familiar with the process significantly increases your chances of a successful placement.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect Estimator job seekers?
The H-2B program issues a maximum of 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split into two 33,000-slot allocations for winter and summer start dates. The summer allocation opens in early January and has historically reached its limit within days. If your prospective employer misses the first filing window, your start date shifts by a full season, so coordinating with them on the filing calendar is essential.
Does an Estimator role qualify as a temporary seasonal position under H-2B rules?
It can qualify if the employer demonstrates that the need for the Estimator is genuinely temporary and tied to a seasonal workload peak, such as a construction season with defined start and end dates. DOL scrutinizes whether the role is a permanent ongoing need or a true temporary one, so the employer's petition must clearly establish the seasonal nature of the work.
What happens if my H-2B status ends before the project is complete?
H-2B status is issued for the period certified by DOL, typically up to one year, with extensions available in one-year increments up to a three-year maximum. If your project extends beyond your authorized period, your employer must file an extension with USCIS before your current status expires. Overstaying without an approved extension triggers unlawful presence, so confirm extension timelines with your employer well in advance.
