Tips for Finding Transporter Jobs
Document your commercial driving credentials early
Gather your valid driver's license, any commercial vehicle endorsements, and a clean motor vehicle record before you apply. H-2B visa employers running shuttle or transfer operations screen driving history upfront, and gaps slow the offer process significantly.
Target employers in resort and hospitality corridors
Seasonal transporter demand concentrates in ski resort towns, beach destinations, and national park gateway communities. Search for lodges, golf resorts, and theme parks that operate shuttle fleets, since these venues file H-2B petitions annually and rehire returning workers.
Search Migrate Mate to find verified H-2B sponsors
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-2B sponsorship history, so you see which transporter employers have actually filed DOL labor certifications before, not just ones that mention visas loosely in job descriptions.
Understand the cap-filing window for your season
The 66,000-cap splits into 33,000 for winter starts and 33,000 for summer starts. Your employer must file for labor certification before the USCIS petition window opens, and early-cap slots fill within days, so confirm your employer's timeline before committing.
Confirm the employer has filed a compliant job order
DOL requires employers to post a job order through the State Workforce Agency before certifying an H-2B position. Ask your prospective employer whether their labor certification is already approved, since a pending or incomplete order can delay your start date by weeks.
Use O*NET to align your experience with job requirements
Pull the Transporter occupation profile from O*NET to understand the task descriptions DOL expects employers to list in their labor certification. Matching your resume language to these descriptions helps employers write accurate job orders that clear DOL review faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Transporter jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search, because it surfaces employers with verified H-2B filing history for seasonal transporter roles. Generic job boards rarely flag whether an employer has actually completed the DOL labor certification process, which is a required step before any H-2B petition reaches USCIS.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect my chances as a Transporter applicant?
The H-2B cap is set at 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split evenly between the October and April start halves. Transporter roles tied to summer tourism fill quickly in the April cap, which means your employer needs to submit their DOL temporary labor certification application months before your intended start date. Late-filing employers often miss available slots entirely.
Does an H-2B Transporter position require a commercial driver's license?
It depends on the vehicle class. Employers operating standard passenger vans or small shuttle buses often require only a clean standard license with no commercial endorsement. Positions involving larger coach buses or vehicles over 26,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight typically require a commercial driver's license, which your employer should specify in the DOL job order.
Can I extend my H-2B status if the employer's season runs longer than expected?
Yes, H-2B status can be extended in increments if the temporary need continues, up to a maximum of three consecutive years before you must leave the U.S. for at least three months. Your employer must file an extension petition with USCIS before your current authorized period expires, and the extension must still reflect a legitimate temporary or seasonal need.
