H-2B Visa Maintenance Engineer Jobs
Maintenance Engineer jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship are available at resorts, amusement parks, ski areas, and large seasonal facilities that rely on temporary foreign workers to keep operations running. Employers must obtain DOL temporary labor certification before filing with USCIS, and the 66,000-visa annual cap means timing your application correctly is critical.

Document your trade certifications before applying
Gather your HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or welding certifications and have them translated into English if needed. H-2B visa petitions require the employer to specify the exact skills justifying the hire, and a clean credentials packet speeds that process.
Target seasonal facilities with recurring H-2B histories
Resorts, ski mountains, and large amusement parks file H-2B petitions annually for maintenance staff. Search OFLC disclosure data by occupation code to find employers who consistently hire Maintenance Engineers through the program, not just one-time filers.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified H-2B employer listings
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with confirmed H-2B filing history for Maintenance Engineer roles, filtered by DOL Labor Condition Application data. This cuts out guesswork and connects you directly to facilities already approved to sponsor seasonal maintenance workers.
Apply before the cap filing window opens in January
The summer cap period opens for DOL applications around mid-January each year. Employers must complete prevailing wage determinations and labor recruitment before that window, so you need a signed job offer by late fall to stay on schedule.
Confirm your role qualifies as temporary and non-agricultural
H-2B covers temporary need, not permanent positions. Make sure your prospective employer can document that the Maintenance Engineer role is seasonal or tied to a peak-load event, because USCIS and DOL will both evaluate whether the need is genuinely temporary.
Verify the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL-certified prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search using the Maintenance Engineer SOC code for the specific county to confirm the offer meets the minimum before you sign anything.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Maintenance Engineer jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search for Maintenance Engineer positions with verified H-2B sponsorship. It filters listings by employers with confirmed DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for this role, so you're only seeing facilities that have already gone through the certification process and are actively hiring seasonal maintenance workers.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect my chances of getting sponsored as a Maintenance Engineer?
The H-2B program is capped at 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split evenly between the winter and summer periods. Demand regularly exceeds supply, and USCIS has used a lottery in recent years when petitions surpass available numbers. Employers must file early and workers need job offers secured well before the DOL application window opens, typically in January for summer starts.
Does my maintenance experience abroad count toward an H-2B petition for a U.S. employer?
Yes, foreign work experience in maintenance engineering is relevant and should be documented in detail. Your employer lists required qualifications in the DOL job order, so your background must match what they specify. Certifications, employer letters, and translated credentials help establish that you meet the role's technical requirements, which strengthens the petition during DOL and USCIS review.
Can my H-2B employer extend my stay if the seasonal project runs longer than expected?
H-2B status is granted for the period of temporary need stated in the petition, with a maximum initial stay of one year. Extensions are possible in increments of up to one year, but the employer must re-certify the continued temporary need with DOL. Total H-2B time cannot exceed three consecutive years, after which you must spend three months outside the U.S. before reapplying.
