H-2B Visa Nursing Jobs
Nursing jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship are posted by U.S. healthcare facilities and staffing agencies that need temporary clinical staff for seasonal surges. Employers must file a temporary labor certification with the DOL before sponsoring you, and the 66,000-visa annual cap means timing your application matters.

Verify your credentials transfer to U.S. standards
Nursing licensure requirements vary by state. Confirm your foreign nursing credentials are evaluated by a recognized body and check whether your target state accepts international applicants before committing to a specific employer or facility.
Target facilities with documented H-2B filing history
Healthcare staffing agencies and long-term care facilities are the most active H-2B visa nursing sponsors. Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by H-2B visa filing history so you're applying where sponsorship is already an established practice.
Understand the split-cap calendar before applying
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap splits into two halves: 33,000 for October through March start dates and 33,000 for April through September. Filing for the correct half determines whether your petition is counted or returned.
Ask employers about their DOL labor certification timeline
The DOL must certify a temporary labor need before your petition reaches USCIS. This pre-filing step takes weeks. Confirm your prospective employer has already started or completed this process before accepting an offer.
Confirm your role qualifies as temporary under H-2B rules
H-2B covers temporary need, not permanent staffing gaps. Nursing positions tied to a specific seasonal event, a one-time patient surge, or a defined short-term contract are the strongest candidates for DOL certification approval.
Check prevailing wage requirements for your specialty
Your employer must pay at least the DOL-determined prevailing wage for your nursing classification and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your specific role and county before evaluating any offer or signed contract.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find nursing jobs that offer H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It shows nursing roles at employers with verified H-2B filing history, so you're not guessing which facilities actually sponsor. Filter by role and location to find positions where the employer has already demonstrated willingness to navigate the DOL certification and USCIS petition process on behalf of international workers.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect when I can start a nursing job?
Yes, and timing is critical. The 66,000 annual cap is split evenly between two periods, and petitions are processed in the order they're received until each half fills. Employers typically file several months before your intended start date. If your petition falls after the cap is reached, you'd need to wait for the next period or apply for a cap-exempt slot if one is available through a returning worker provision.
Can a nursing staffing agency sponsor my H-2B visa instead of a direct employer?
Yes. Many H-2B nursing placements are managed through staffing agencies that hold the DOL labor certification and act as the employer of record. The agency files the temporary labor certification with DOL and the I-129 petition with USCIS. You work at a client facility, but your visa sponsorship flows through the agency. Confirm the agency has successfully completed this process before for nursing roles specifically.
Is a U.S. nursing license required before my H-2B petition is filed?
State nursing licensure requirements apply regardless of visa status, and most facilities won't file a petition for a candidate who hasn't cleared the licensing process. Some states allow you to apply for licensure while your petition is pending, but your employer needs confidence you'll be work-authorized and licensed by your start date. Credential evaluation and the NCLEX exam timeline should be resolved before your employer begins the DOL certification step.
