Tips for Your Head Of Business Operations Job Search
Quantify operational impact on your resume
Head of business operations hiring managers look for measurable outcomes, not task lists. Replace phrases like 'managed projects' with specifics: cycle time reduced, headcount scaled, or cost per unit improved. Numbers turn a general resume into a compelling case.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists head of business operations openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your resume to each company stage
A Series B startup and a Fortune 500 want very different things from a head of business operations. Early-stage roles emphasize building from scratch, while enterprise roles weight governance and stakeholder management. Reframe your bullet points to match the company's growth phase.
Filter for titles that hide the same role
Head of business operations openings often appear under VP of Operations, Chief of Staff, or Director of Business Operations. Search multiple title variations so you don't miss listings that match your experience but use a different label.
Prepare a structured ops case study for interviews
Interviewers for this role routinely ask you to walk through a process you built or fixed end to end. Prepare two or three case studies covering diagnosis, decision-making, execution, and outcome. Vague answers about 'driving alignment' don't land without the operational detail.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
Before discussing an offer, clarify which functions you'll own, your reporting line, and your decision-making authority. Head of business operations roles vary widely in actual scope, and a broad mandate with modest pay often outperforms a narrow role with higher base.
Head Of Business Operations Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most head of business operationss?
The companies hiring the most head of business operationss right now include CVS Health, Cohere, and DoorDash, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is particularly concentrated in high-growth technology and healthcare organizations scaling their operations functions.
How many head of business operations jobs are remote?
About 39% of head of business operations openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's reliance on digital collaboration tools and cross-functional coordination that can happen across time zones. Strategic planning, data analysis, and vendor management sub-functions tend to attract the most remote-eligible postings.
How do you become a head of business operations?
Most people reach this role by building a track of progressively broader operational or strategic leadership experience, typically moving through roles in operations management, chief of staff, or business strategy. You strengthen your candidacy by owning end-to-end processes, developing fluency in data analysis and financial modeling, and demonstrating that you can align cross-functional teams around shared goals without direct authority over every stakeholder.
Can you get hired as a head of business operations with limited experience?
It's possible to break in with limited direct experience if you can show ownership of a complex, cross-functional initiative, even outside a formal operations title. Candidates who have led a major product launch, managed an internal transformation project, or served as a chief of staff analogue are often competitive. Targeting earlier-stage companies or newly created roles gives you the best opening, since those employers care more about problem-solving ability than a long resume.
What does the head of business operations interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on your background and scope of past roles, followed by a structured interview with the hiring executive covering strategic thinking and cross-functional leadership. Most companies include a case study or take-home exercise that asks you to diagnose an operational problem and propose a solution. Final rounds usually involve presentations to senior leadership and conversations with key stakeholders you would partner with day to day.
Where can I find and apply to head of business operations jobs?
You can find and apply to head of business operations jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and location preferences, then apply directly to each one that fits.
