Position Overview
We are seeking a visionary and culturally fluent leader to oversee and grow our social media practice. This role is responsible for defining the agency's social vision, elevating social thinking across all clients, and building a best-in-class integrated offering that connects social, creative, media, communications planning, PR, influencer collaborations, and experiential. At its core, this role requires a deep understanding of human behavior, culture, and communities. The ideal candidate is passionate about understanding how people think, behave, engage, and connect across social platforms—and can translate those insights into compelling social expressions of brand strategy that drive both cultural relevance and business results. As head of social strategy, you will serve as both a senior client advisor and agency leader—driving strategic excellence, capability development, business growth, and talent leadership. You will ensure social is embedded from the earliest stages of planning and plays a meaningful role in shaping communications strategy, creative development, media planning, and customer engagement.

- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior clients, providing proactive counsel on trends, opportunities, risks, and the evolving social landscape.
- Present strategic recommendations, thought leadership, and performance insights to executive stakeholders.
Integrated Collaboration & Communications
- Partner with brand strategy, creative, media, PR, influencer, analytics, and account teams to develop integrated marketing and communications solutions.
- Leverage social insights to inspire creative development and strengthen campaign effectiveness.

- Ensure recommendations are grounded in audience intelligence, behavioral insights, and business outcomes.
- Foster a culture of testing, learning, and continuous optimization.

Tips for Your Head Of Social Job Search
Quantify reach and engagement on your resume
Head of social hiring managers want numbers, not narratives. Replace phrases like 'grew the account' with specific follower growth figures, engagement rate lifts, or campaign reach totals drawn directly from your platform analytics dashboards.
Tailor your portfolio to each platform mix
Every employer has a different channel priority. Before applying, audit which platforms the company is active on and lead your portfolio with examples from those exact channels. A TikTok-heavy brand does not need your Pinterest case study first.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists head of social openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Address cross-functional leadership in interviews
Interviewers often probe how you manage tension between creative, brand, and performance teams. Prepare two or three concrete examples where you aligned conflicting priorities across departments and drove a content decision that satisfied multiple stakeholders.
Research the company's current content gaps
Before your interview, audit the company's social presence and identify one underperforming channel or content type. Bringing a specific, data-backed observation to the conversation signals strategic thinking that generic candidates skip.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
Head of social titles vary wildly in what they own. Before accepting any offer, confirm whether the role controls budget, manages a team, and owns paid strategy. Scope determines your leverage for every conversation that follows.

Most processes include an initial recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation focused on strategy and leadership, and a practical exercise such as a channel audit or content plan presentation. Final rounds typically involve meeting cross-functional stakeholders from brand, growth, or communications to assess how you collaborate across teams.
