Location: Los Angeles
Department: Editorial / Audience
Company: TheWrap
The Role
TheWrap is looking for a Head of Social and Video to lead how our journalism, talent, events and editorial franchises come to life across social and video platforms.
We are looking for a strategic, highly organized, data-obsessed creative leader who can look at an important piece of journalism, a major interview, a cover story, an awards franchise, a red carpet or a live event and immediately begin thinking about the entire package around it:
What is the story? What is the most compelling way into it? What should audiences see, hear or experience? How do we know whether it worked? And how do we use what we learn to make the next one better?
The right person understands both newsroom instincts and social/video-first storytelling and should be capable of Blue Sky ideation to come up with new, engaging video series that will make TheWrap stand out. The ideal candidate doesn’t wait for ideas to be assigned; they constantly think of new and exciting ways to elevate TheWrap’s brand themselves.
They can operate at the speed of entertainment news while also planning weeks and months ahead. They know when a story should become a reporter-to-camera video, when the data deserves a carousel or visualization, when a quote creates a compelling curiosity gap, when additional footage or an interview should be captured, and when the best strategy is simply a brilliantly packaged headline.
They understand how to give productive notes on cuts of video packages, what keeps a viewer’s engagement and how to merchandise one video across different platforms.
They are equally comfortable looking at the numbers afterward and answering: What actually worked? Why? What didn’t? What should we do more of, less of, or differently next time?
Above all, we are looking for a leader — someone who takes ownership, anticipates needs before they are assigned, operates exceptionally well, and constantly thinks several steps ahead.
What You’ll Own
Define the role social and video play in TheWrap’s broader audience, brand and revenue strategy.
Establish clear goals and KPIs across platforms and ensure the team’s work ladders up to meaningful outcomes — including audience growth, engagement, traffic, brand development, franchise growth and revenue opportunities.
Manage TheWrap’s social media manager and TheWrap’s video editor, keeping tabs on daily tasks, setting priorities and anticipating needs.
Establish clear workflows around editorial planning, event coverage, sponsored deliverables and platform priorities.
What We’re Looking For
You are:
- A leader. You take initiative, make decisions and bring solutions. You don’t wait to be given a checklist.
- Strategic. You can zoom out from the daily publishing cycle and establish clear objectives, priorities and measures of success.
- Data-driven. You are comfortable interrogating performance, identifying patterns, communicating what the numbers mean and turning those insights into clear decisions and next steps.
- Social-native. You deeply understand how news and entertainment behave across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook and emerging platforms — and recognize that the same story should not simply be reformatted identically everywhere.
- Editorially sophisticated. You can read a piece of journalism, understand what actually makes it interesting and identify the strongest ways to translate that insight for audiences.
- A creative packager. You are obsessed with presentation, hooks, formats, sequencing and finding the most compelling way to merchandise great work.
- Exceptionally organized. Calendars, workflows, deadlines and forward planning are second nature to you.
- An excellent communicator. You know how to coordinate reporters, editors, producers, marketers, sales teams and external partners without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Connected to entertainment. You understand the ecosystem of Hollywood, television, streaming, creators and entertainment media, and ideally already have relationships within it.
- Curious and experimental. You actively follow changes in audience behavior, formats, platforms and technology and are eager to test new ways of telling stories and reaching audiences.
Qualifications
- 4–6 years of professional experience managing social media and video accounts for a media outlet, brand, or agency.
- Deep familiarity with analytics platforms and a demonstrated ability to interpret data and act on it.
- Experience working on branded content or sponsored campaigns, ideally in a media environment.
- Basic experience with video editing tools, especially for social
- Experience with coordinating and producing bespoke videos
- Comfort and experience conducting red carpet interviews.
This is a Los Angeles-based role, requiring four days a week in our Santa Monica office.
The salary range for this role is typically between $105,000 and $110,000, but may vary depending on experience level
Please send resumes to adam.chitwood@thewrap.com and jeremy.memmi@thewrap.com.

Tips for Your Head Of Social Job Search
Quantify reach and engagement on your resume
Head of social hiring managers want numbers, not narratives. Replace phrases like 'grew the account' with specific follower growth figures, engagement rate lifts, or campaign reach totals drawn directly from your platform analytics dashboards.
Tailor your portfolio to each platform mix
Every employer has a different channel priority. Before applying, audit which platforms the company is active on and lead your portfolio with examples from those exact channels. A TikTok-heavy brand does not need your Pinterest case study first.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists head of social openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Address cross-functional leadership in interviews
Interviewers often probe how you manage tension between creative, brand, and performance teams. Prepare two or three concrete examples where you aligned conflicting priorities across departments and drove a content decision that satisfied multiple stakeholders.
Research the company's current content gaps
Before your interview, audit the company's social presence and identify one underperforming channel or content type. Bringing a specific, data-backed observation to the conversation signals strategic thinking that generic candidates skip.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
Head of social titles vary wildly in what they own. Before accepting any offer, confirm whether the role controls budget, manages a team, and owns paid strategy. Scope determines your leverage for every conversation that follows.
