Home Lending Advisor Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a home lending advisor in California?
You become a home lending advisor in California by obtaining an individual Mortgage Loan Originator license through the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. This requires completing pre-licensing education, passing the NMLS SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator Test, and registering with the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System. Most California employers also expect a background in finance or banking, and experience in customer-facing financial services roles gives candidates a strong head start.
How much do home lending advisors make in California?
Home lending advisors in California earn a median of about $81,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,460 for the lowest 10% to over $169,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire home lending advisors in California?
Employers hiring home lending advisors in California right now include JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of large retail banks, regional credit unions, and independent mortgage companies means openings appear across a wide range of institution types and markets throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most home lending advisor jobs?
The cities with the most home lending advisor openings in California are Antelope, Berkeley, and Fairfield. This distribution reflects where California's highest home values, densest residential transaction volume, and largest financial institution footprints converge, with major metro hubs driving the bulk of purchase origination activity and anchoring the regional branches where most advisors are based.
Are there remote home lending advisor jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical finance roles because home lending advising involves client meetings, realtor relationships, and in-person closings that favor local presence. About 0% of home lending advisor openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting employers who allow flexibility for experienced originators. The parts of the role most suited to remote work are pipeline management, pre-qualification calls, and application processing.
How can I get hired as a home lending advisor in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a large California retail bank or credit union as a personal banker or financial services representative, then moving internally into mortgage origination. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and regional credit unions like Golden 1 and SchoolsFirst regularly hire for associate or junior loan officer roles in California that pair new hires with senior advisors. Completing your NMLS pre-licensing coursework before applying signals commitment and removes a hiring barrier employers frequently cite.
Where can I find and apply to home lending advisor jobs in California?
You can find and apply to home lending advisor jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that match your experience and licensing status and apply directly to the ones that fit.
